Blind Spot Sensor (Lasers On Mirrors)

Hello,

I am looking at lasers to detect the presence of a vehicle in the blind spot (to switch on a small led stuck inside the door).

It looks like something that may be useful one day.

Similar safety systems are usually installed on Volvo, Audi, Mercedes, and they cost about 118 £ on eBay (may be less: 90£ from China incl. freight)

I would like to know if someone here already installed this system ?

Thanks

Christophe

I do...

It's called Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre coupled with copious amounts of observation ;)

The issue with this system is whether its use of laser technology is safe and legal within the EU

Does the system work only above a given speed (road), because it "reads" the car speed,

or does it always work, being annoying in town ?

Alternately, we could power up the system when the turn signal is on ?

Edit:

Yes, most probably the system is powered up by the turn signal in the mirror.

So it should only work when the turn signal is on?

However I can read on some chinese description: "Works after the car's speed over 60KM/h" !

Unless that requires an optional GPS, such as :

Many high class cars are equipped with those Osram lasers. Volvo was the first, then Mercedes since 2007.

so the system must have been approuved for a long time...

Audi also sells a much more powerful laser (40 meters instead of 15 here).
