Avensis Oxygen Sensors

HI

My Enginge managemnt light has recently lit up and I took the var a 2004 Avensis T Spirit 2.00 VVT into the main dealer for a diagnosis.

They initially told me all 4 Oxygen sensors had gone and a replacement charge of £990.0!!

a

They also advised me that it requires a new throttle body at a cost of £1085.00!!!!!!

We all know how much a 2004 is worth and its not that much. I asked if all 4 sensors normally go which they replied no so I asked if they could rechck and they came back and said only 2 had gone??

The codes are P0037 and P0057.

Question is could I replace these myself and how do I locate which are the 2 faulty ones as I now have no faith in the main dealer let alone the money for that repair.

On the throttle body can these be reset.

So many questions, any help would be really appreciated

Welcome to the world of rip off Toyota, I have the same car and same age as you and in the first 3 years of it's life had 6 oxygen sensors fitted under warranty, still get engine warning light coming on to tell me sensors have failed but now ignore it.

After about 4 days the light goes out and remains out for about 2-3 months then comes back on for another 4 days.

I have found out that giving the engine a dose of some thing like red x helps.

One further thing I noticed was that when under warranty the fault was diagnosed in under 30 minutes but out of warranty it took 3 hours for the same thing.

Strange that it took longer when I paid for it.

why do garages insist on just swapping out sensors rather than just tracing back why it logged a code.

I would post a link how to check ya sensor with a multi meter but it wont let me do it if u google "how to test an oxygen sensor with a multimeter" there r lots of videos to help ya.
