Smart Key Not Working From Home

Hi,

got a big problem with our 2010 Rav4 D4D smart/intelligent key.

Last week we had our electric caravan sockets changed to a single 13 pin socket, several hours later our smart key would no longer start the car or lock/unlock the car, it would when he had first completed the job.

Toyota do not fit towbars themselves or we would have used them.

Had the car recovered and taken back to Toyota dealer who said it was working fine.

Car returned and not working !

We have since found out within 60metres of our home our smart keys no longer work.

Toyota says microwaves, wireless connections are to blame or telephone masts, pylons and traffic lights could also be the cause, but as we don't live near any of these we are ruling them out and the key worked previously.

Switched all power off to our home, no change.

replaced smart key batteries, took fuse out of towbar electrics and still nothing, checked neighbours and found a recent wireless doorbell, now also switched off and removed.

Toyota say its our problem and wont help, just over a year of warranty left.

The company what fitted the towbar and recent electrics says there isn't a problem, so we are now stuck with a car we can neither lock/unlock and wont start from home unless we place smart key on top of the ignition button.

Any suggestions what may help us would be greatly appreciated .

I have a similar intermittent problem. it's caused by radio interference. Do you have a smart meter for gas electric?

The other option is to contact ofcom however they would want to charge £90.00 per hour or part thereof to investigate if the problem is found to be "within your control". We still haven't found the solution so have to put up with it.

It could be almost any wireless device including illicit mobile phones etc. It's not the car or radio fob.

I thought the motor industry were supposed to be trying to sort out a specific radio frequency which would not get interference for auto locking systems and smart keys but can't rember where I read it. unfortunately this won't solve your problem but when instigated should prevent future cars doing it.

Think the fact you've had the caravan sockets changed is probably a coincidence.

Can be any one of a number of things: National Grid; smart meter; mobile phone mast (some are disguised as telegraph poles); military or emergency services communications equipment; a neighbours or your own wifi; video sender; wireless sender attached to a SMART TV; wireless house alarm or CCTV; wireless door bell or SMART entry system; etc.

Has anyone changed their wifi system (new router) or got a new TV?

Unfortunately it is beyond the control of Toyota.
