Can Cd Changer Display Current Songs Name?

I own Avensis T22 2001 and it has CD changer W53804. I was wondering, is it possible for it to display name of current song that is playing? All it is able to display is number of track in CD or tracks time.
Also, I would like to ask is it always necessary to records CD's as audio CD's?

Unless both the audio system and the CD changer are designed to show name of song playing, you will only have track number.

Yes, it is necessary to record CD as audio CD format, because that is what your system recognises. If the CD changer could read compressed audio formats like WMA and/or MP3, then you could make CD's containing more music.

Remember WMA and MP3 was not available until later. You can add MP3/WMA playback by adding a Y cable then something like Yatours, Connects2 or Xcarlink via the CD changer connector at the back of the stereo unit. In the UK (at least) Toyota Avensis (pre-vvti) GLS/CDX came with a Sony double din cassette, tuner and CD. I added a Sony 10 disc changer when I first got the car due to CD player being broken (I repaired this soon after). Then I added the Connects2 USB 'i connect' between head unit and CD changer.

This is much better as does not take long to transfer music to USB memory sticks and they are cheap. As before I only can see track numbers due to age of the Sony system.

One advantage is you still have the steering controls.
