Changing Auto Transmission Fluid On Previa 2004

Greeting all, has anyone done this?

I'm looking to do this but just need some advice on anything I should be aware of. It certainly seems more than just changing the engine oil so anything good advice is welcome.

Thanks. Astro

Well I should have mentioned that the reason for doing this is that the car has done over 114000 miles so it's probably long due. And second most important is that sometimes I hear a knocking sound when I shift from park to reverse. This sound is intermittent and happens whenever it wants. I read somewhere that it's avoidable to top the fluid if this happens but I just feel it's better to renew the fluid.

Not an hard job Astro, remember the fill amount its best to at least mach what you take out initially. are you putting a new filter? if not ensure the gauze is clear of debris. (if any)

You will need 3.3 litres of ATF T-IV do not use ATF dextron III it is not compatible.

1. Park on a level surface

2. Remove drain plug and drain fluid

3. Replace and secure drain plug

4. With engine OFF remove transmission dipstick and add 3.3 litres of fluid through dipstick tube

5. Start engine but hold on footbrake, select all gear positions from Park through to L pausing in each position then return to Park

6. With engine idling top level up to Cool level on dipstick

7. With engine up to operating temp ensure level reads correct on HOT level

Good morning,

Apologies for not being around for sometime.

Anyway, I have checked the transmission fluid color and here it is.

I spoke with Toyota and they are charging £120 to get the old fluid drained and refilled with new.

I saw a mechanic and he doesn't think it needs changing.

Cheers, Astro
