Retro Fitting Aygo Ice 2013 Model With Foglights

Howdy folks.

I've done a search and found info aplenty on wiring and stuff as well as excellent 'how tos' for fitting stuff but what i can't find is any info on sourcing just the front fogs for an Aygo. Do i just need to buy the lamps themselves or is there some kind of fitting kit needed?

I did work out that I'd need a stalk with front and rear fog control on it - eBay got me that for £25 delivered so that's fine and I'm pretty sure the wiring and connectors for the fogs is tucked in behind the bumper itself.

Pretty sure that this is the correct foglight but i don't know if i need more than that.

This is the style of bumper i need to fit it into.

If i end up having to go and be fleeced by Toyota that's fine but if anyone has done this and has a source for the part with part numbers etc that'd be tip top :)

Toyota do not offer a "kit" to retro fit daytime running lights, the option was a factory fit only option, the car is not prewired in any way if it left the factory without DRL, the correct lower grille and DRL can be bought as spare parts but the wiring would have to be a DIY job as the factory harness is in two pieces complete engine bay and complete dash harness ( massive money ).

Having looked into fitting DRL for a friend with a MY13 we gave up looking at trying to fit all the kit as Toyota would have done as the parts required came to a huge cost, we identified the following as being different:

Speedo head

Dash fuse box

Dash wiring harness

Light control switch

Engine wiring harness

Lower grill

DRLS

And DRL trims

In the end we decided on the genuine grille, trims & DRL's and he bought a cheap DRL kit and adapted the harness from the kit to fit the genuine DRL's

Ahh sorry - i meant Foglights - if i was fiddling with DRL i'd just fit something aftermarket :)

Sorry totally misread, right Fog lights, again there is no kit as from MY12 onwards fogs became a factory option rather than accessory fit, so the only option is work out what parts are needed to retro fit:

81210-0D042 Rh foglamp

81220-0D042 Lh foglamp

84140-0H020 Light switch incl Fr fog

52125-0H020 Rh mounting bracket

52126-0H020 Lh mounting bracket

90183-05050 Captive nut x 2

90159-53027 Screw x 2

81481-05050 Rh outer trim

81482-05050 Lh outer trim

90080-87021 Fr fog relay

These are taken from a comparison between your chassis number ( taken from your registration ) and another chassis number from an Aygo with factory fogs, I cannot guarantee that I found everything.

Spot on that cheers! As i understand it. it's a simple case of fitting the relay and the new stalk ( read this somewhere else) and then that provides power to the wires that are already behind the bumper - it's just the fogs and bracketry i need to source and that's the parts above.

Very handy thank you very much!!!

Its the fogs themselves that are pretty pricey from Toyota - around £80 each? Thats a lot of money IMO. I've just bought a 2013 bumper to fit on my 07 so I've been doing a lot of searching for the fogs to fit the later bumper.

The link you posted could be a godsend - 80 euro shipped is a LOT cheaper! Have we confirmed that they are correct for our bumpers? The site part numbers don't tally up with the Toyota ones that Devon Aygo posted. That said, the ones shown have 2 bolt holes (earlier fogs have 4) so I think we could be onto a winner..

Scrap that...

This site shows the Toyota part number as being a 4-bolt lamp.

http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Toyota-81210-0D042-fog-light-lamp_906833468.html

So now it seems that using the number of bolt holes is a red herring.

Let me know what you come up with fester :)

52125-0H020 - BRACKET, FOG LAMP MOUNTING, RH - £17.88 + VAT

52126-0H010 - BRACKET, FOG LAMP MOUNTING, LH - £17.88 + VAT

81481-0H041 - COVER, FOG LAMP, RH - £18.37 + VAT

81482-0H041 - COVER, FOG LAMP, LH - £18.37 + VAT

90080-87021 – RELAY – 28.75 + VAT

90183-05050 - NUT - £0.85 + VAT Each

90159-50327 - SCREW - £0.85 + VAT Each

That, I think is the correct bracketry + the relay - i already have the correct stalk. There are some bumpers coming up on eBay for not too much more than all of this costs .... think i might just watch out for a silver one with the bits and bobs already fitted!

I was of the same impression and the used bumpers are indeed coming up more frequently now but I found that they wildly varied in price, averaging between £80 and £150. All of them had crash damage (natch) and came without grills/fogs/badges etc.

I thought I was quite lucky to get mine for £50 delivered and it only has paint damage rather than cracks/splits/broken fixing points which many others had. To get one with all the bits, in good order, in silver, could be tricky!

I still haven't got any further with the fogs though. I was tempted to just mesh the apertures in the first instance so I could get the bumper on the car but to do so means having to grind off the fog bracket mounting tabs which I don't really want to do.

The link you posted gets more confusing the more I look at it. One image clearly shows only 2 mounting lugs on one side. Another image shows lugs on both sides! I am pretty confident that the 2005 to 2012 fog is a smaller, different unit to the 2013 models but I am suspicious that many sellers are mistakenly selling the earlier unit as suitable for 2013 models.

Also, the 'outer trim' part number that Devon Aygo posted is completely different to your 'cover-foglamp' one?

Cheers

I dunno but if you look here

http://minsk.japancars.ru/index.php?route=catalog/toyota&mdf_id=4101&area=EU&cat=101510&pn=894650H010&blk_id=5201

That's definitely my bumper and some of the part numbers match the ones Devon had - i'll probably order the brackets to start with or pop into Toyota and get them to verify the order against my VIN / reg number before i actually order anything.

If it all gets a bit silly, i will just get some round fogs and bond them into the clip in black covers and save all the faffing about.

Cheers fester. Yep I think we will need to get the brackets and outer ring trims for the fogs whatever we do because it won't look right otherwise. The diagrams don't show the part numbers for the fogs which is a shame but I am sure that Devon's will be right. Like you say, it may be easier to jerry-rig in some aftermarket fogs to save money and confusion. Keep us posted!

I knew this would come up on eBay eventually. Got a set of 2nd hand lights complete with front chrome bezel and rear plastic brackets for 50 quid. Already had the stalk with the fog controls on it ( 15 quid ) so hopefully that's all i need apart from a relay.

Not fitting it until the weather warms up a bit though :blow:

Good stuff! I've put mine on hold for a bit as I found out I need the later bonnet if I use the later bumper. Post some pics when it's done please!

Ok that's what i've got so far. I *think* I'm missing one trim clip, possibly three - off to Toyota today with 'the one' to see if i can get the others. If not, fat cable ties and some careful holes will do the job of the missing clips :bash:

Nice one, if nothing else it looks like you've got all the main components you need. I'm sure that if theres anything small missing it can be worked around. £50 is a good deal, I might have to keep my eyes open. Post up a pic when they are all fitted!

screw that goes with it - 90159-50327 £0.90 + VAT

I've got 1 clip and no screws and looking at the marks on the brackets, i need 3 clips and then 4 screws. Order placed with Lancaster Toyota in Cambridge, thumbs up for their parts department who have been nothing but helpful!

Fitted these today - piece of cake.

Bumper off etc etc. Unclip blanking plates, clip on foglight bracket from rear - one M8 screw locates that. Clip chrome bezel in from the front. Clip light in from the rear and secure with one more M8 screwbolt.

Cables / plugs already behind the bumper.

Taking it to a 'mate' at the end of the month to get the stalks swapped over as i don't like working with airbag electtrics :)

Looks great! I've still got my late spec bumper but now that I've managed to find a lower splitter for my earlier bumper it looks a lot better and I may end up keeping it now.

Airbag steering wheel is really easy - just make sure you disconnect the Battery and leave it for 5 minutes before unbolting the wheel. I've handled dozens of airbags and never had a problem yet *crosses fingers*

Just to add - the relay clips into the loom behind the radio and yes, it's easily accessible once the radio is hanging out of the dash. You know you have the right socket when you see the other relay ( identical ) for the rear foglight :)

Going to have a go with getting the airbag off later - i've come this far with it.

Update: DONE!

Before doing this make sure your Battery is disconnected and windows are up ( in case it rains ) and make sure the seats are both back as far as possible,

1. Remove airbag access covers and unscrew airbag retainers - the screws are captive so will release but NOT fall out and no need to try and remove them.

2. Remove airbag ( disconnect Battery for 10 minutes first). Disconnect horn and airbag connector, Little yellow piece lifts in the centre of the airbag connector to allow you to disconnect it. Put the airbag down carefully out of the way so you don't kick it.

3. Remove steering wheel ( plenty of guides on this ) but make sure wheels are straight first.

4. Remove upper and lower cowl - hidden screw for the lower cowl just in front of the steering wheel adjuster.

5. Remove clear plastic speedo cover.

6. Disconnect the plugs from the stalks.

7. Carefully remove the black plastic airbag connection ring by unclipping it forward, do NOT rotate it - tape it so it can't rotate and let it hang - make sure you put it back exactly the same orientation you removed it.

8. Now you can remove the right hand stalk - one small clip.

9. Deal with the giant circlip type compression ring that holds the left hand stalk and mounting plastic to the steering column - bit of a fiddle this and you need strong needle nose pliers, 3 hands and some patience. You must compress it whilst pulling the whole thing towards you and at the same time lifting the plastic retaining lug at the rear.

10. Compress the circlip on the new stalk and housing and slide it back down the column until it snaps into place - release pliers.

11. Refit right side stalk.

12. Connect the plugs to both,

13. Refit air bag plastic ring trim

14. Refit upper and lower cowls.

15. Refit wheel - make sure the wheel is on straight and pull the airbag connector cable through the top access hole of the steering wheel and refit the airbag - the little orange plug only goes on ONE way. Push the yellow piece in the middle of the plug back to lock the connector in place onto the airbag.

16. Tighten the steering wheel retaining nut up.

17. Replace airbag access trims.

18. Reconnect Battery.

19. Key on and check for warning lights - if that's ok ... test the various lights / indicators etc.

20. Get your fog lights adjusted by using a large crosshead driver through the access holes in the splashguard.

Time taken .... a good hour but half of that was fighting with the stupid metal clip that holds the left hand stalk on.

No Specialist tools required.

Just wanted to report here for the thing done with my Aygo 2012:

1. Need 1 more relay for fog light behind the audio unit.

image.thumb.png.5a26502653a58bf5b1a26761922fc15d.png

2. Need to replace the the indicator stalk. However, it's £80 so I modded the fog switch instead. The way I did is to connect the front fog light pin to the rear fog light pin in the indicator stalk. On the indicator stalk itself have a little 3-pin connector like in picture. You just need to bridge the first and third pin. So whenever you turn on the rear fog light, the front is also on. It also shown on the dash.

3. Check the fog light fuse in fuse box.
