PiP went in for service this morning, showed my motor insurance cert which proved I was covered fully comp in their Aygo, so £10 waived. Also means if I bin it, its only a £150 excess on my policy vs £500 on theirs!

Which insurer are you with? Most UK comprehensive policies will allow you to drive other cars not owned by you, but only provide Third Party Only cover, unless it is a hire car from one of their approved repairers following an accident you're claiming for. Are you absolutely and totally sure that your policy allows you to drive other cars on a Comprehensive basis?

There are some policies that do give Comp cover, but they are few and far between and often expensive.

On Gen 1 & 2 Prius, many owners reported some 5+ mpg penalty when the oil was overfilled. They mostly reported it returning to normal once the overfill was removed.

It was widely believed the specification that led to the overfill was based on the capacity of a brand new engine, without taking into account that when old oil was drained, some residue would remain.

Extreme overfilling can lead to such severe churning that the oil contains enough air bubbles to reduce it's lubricating quality - as British Leyland found out on early Austin/Morris 1800 'Landcrabs' that used the same engine as the MGB sports car - unfortunately, they forgot to recalibrate the dipstick which meant when the level was on max on the stick, it was grossly overfilled. They had to replace a number of seized engines at quite low mileage as a result until they realised what the problem was.

Getting on for 10 years since Rover went pop. I only owned one Rover. Just as well they went bust as I'd never have got another.

Our insurance certificates with LV specifically state within the first section :

Any motor car which is loaned or hired to the Policyholder under the Insurer's Motor Damage Claims Service or by a member of the Motor trade while the vehicle specified above is in the custody of the Motor trader for service, repair or MOT

The reverse of the certificate states that the cover is comprehensive including the same policy excesses (in our case £50 for accident or theft) and the same named drivers as on the policy.

Getting on for 10 years since Rover went pop. I only owned one Rover. Just as well they went bust as I'd never have got another.

But can you believe it? 10 years ago!?! Eeek, I'm getting old.

It will be 10 years next April. When they went under, I managed a team of CV writers that the department (DWP) put into place for when the redundant employees made their claims for benefits. 15 hour working days each weekday plus work at weekends over a period of three weeks up to my pre-booked holiday in the May.

With the lease scheme MG/Rover had for employees (started by BMW), the majority of people lost their livelihood and their cars, as the finance company wanted them back asap.

Aviva, who are one of the few companies out there to still give a market leading level of cover IMO. States the same as LV going by what frostyballs has put.

But that doesn't read as covering you during a service which is what this thread is about, or at least it doesn't to me. It would read as only covering you for comp when using their cars whilst in for repair.

Fairly plain english. Copy of insurance certificate also which again confirms this - Section 1, the insured vehicle.

Section 1A of our certificates of insurance states the registration number of the vehicle insured (ie my Auris or my partner's i20)

The quote I gave is at section 1B, and the reference to 'the vehicle above' refers to the vehicle stated in section 1A (my Auris or my partner's i20).

We've recently had our i20 in at the dealers for new bodyside mouldings to be fitted under warranty, and we had one of the new i10's over the weekend. Before we dropped off the i20/collected the i10, I did check with the insurer that we were covered for the i10 comprehensively - and we were.

Just looked at mine and it's a bit more restrictive. It only covers 24 hours via a Toyota dealer whilst being serviced. So Joe Bloggs garage is not covered. Different matter for accident repairs where you have it for as long as needed.

Anyway I forgot I have a vantage Toyota loyalty card,do I get any discount on that,I am not sure if I am entitled to any discount.

Just looked at mine and it's a bit more restrictive. It only covers 24 hours via a Toyota dealer whilst being serviced. So Joe Bloggs garage is not covered. Different matter for accident repairs where you have it for as long as needed.

Yes, rather pleased with the policy, not nessecarily the cheapest, but a very good level of cover as standard, the fact its saves me £20 a year at the Toyota dealer (doing 2 services a year due to my mileage) and £350 less than the Toyota excess should I have a prang in one of their cars is a win win imo. Interestingly on the disclaimer form I got and signed when I took the Aygo for the day they had a section to tick and say I was refusing their cover (Aviva also funny enough) and had sorted my own cover.

I remember using an Alfa specialist last year on my last car, mentioned I had the same cover back then, and he said yes, thats fine, he was aware that Aviva covered loan cars for 7 days, and that he wasn't aware of anyone else doing this - although it looks like LV do too going by FrostyBalls post.

Hi, I've had it just over 4 months now, unfortunately I can't compare to any other Prii as its my first, all I know is I've only 1 regret, and thats that I didn't buy one sooner.

To be able to fly down the outside lane of the motorway, through central London, out the other side, and then back home and return an indicated 73MPG, which from experience is still about 66-68MPG on a brim to brim fill is still amazing me. I'd have been lucky to have got 50MPG with the same journey from my previous 1.6 Diesel.

Been with LV since 2003 - moved from Norwich Union Direct (now Aviva) - and they have had this service on our policies since we moved over.

Raising the issue of oil being over filled, I thought I'd have a look today when doing my weekly checks on the PiP Below is what I found, the pic's aren't the best, but the oil is just above the V kink in the dipstick - am I correcting in thinking that this is far enough over to be taking the car back and asking them to rectify this?

Yep. Way too high. Sloppy servicing in my mind.

Thank for confirming I'm not paranoid. It was resolved first thing this morning, I wasn't happy getting up at 0630hrs on a Saturday (I'm not a morning person as it is). To add to this I questioned what a unit of screen wash is, as its been charged at £1.85 on the service sheet, yet on the screen wash dipstick was only 1/3 full, and apparently this is a shot of concentrate and then should have been filled to full. So I believe this hadn't been done.

Although everyone at the dealership was polite enough I'm not best happy, will be sending an email to head office in a bit to see what they're willing to do to compensate my inconvenience and restore my trust.

Shame Toyota don't send that survey to customers whenever they had work carried out. The results of these could affect the discounts and standing of the dealer. If they got great feedback then they got discounts on the vehicles they could buy and either pass this on or improve their profitability or both.

Since Toyota have pulled back on (or pulled it completely) this survey I wonder if some dealers have let things slip? They're definitely not the company they were in 2010 or 2011.

My car was last serviced in August & I got customer survey emails from both Toyota & the dealer group.

It's due in for an MOT in the next few weeks so we'll see if I get any for that.

I didn't think that Toyota dealers still charged for screenwash ... it must cost them pennies. :rolleyes:

As far as I'm aware, the customer questionnaires are sent out on a random basis now - rather than to everyone who had visited a dealership.

And since that has happened both Mrs Cabbie and I have not received one, despite visiting a number of times. Both cars have full Toyota history and Mrs C gets her MOT there too.

I'd be curious what percentage of visits get a random questionnaire?

funnily enough, I was trying to remember when I last had one - then one arrived today for my visit last Friday when my dealer supplied and fitted winter tyres to the existing wheels on my Prius, and stored they summer tyres for me.

And, as it happened, I had to give them full marks under every category (which is not unusual in my 12 years' experience with this dealer)
