Glow Plug Light

I have had trouble starting my 2.0 diesel avensis when it is cold outside..... this has been going on for the last 2 years. last 2 days I have noticed that when the car struggles to start the glow plug light doesn't come on. at least it doesn't on the second and subsequent trys. I haven't remembered so far to look on the first try.

I am getting a little concerned now as I was thinking the glowplugs were on the way out but now getting worried about the ecu.

anyone got any ideas

many thanks

On my 2.0 D4D Verso I think the glow plug light only comes on the first time you try and start it. On subsequent tries I don't think it comes on as I assume that the glow plugs are already warmed up so the light doesn't come on.

I assume that you turn the ignition on, wait for the glow plug light to go out and then start the car?

yes I wait for the light to go out even in the summer. its only when its cold outside that I get an issue... sometimes it will start on the second attempt other times it can take 4 or 5 trys b4 it will fire. it is going into the garage tomorrow to be left over night and they will have a look first thing thurs.

It could be the suction control valve sticking.

If you read in the Auris section you'll see some interesting posts about it.

would the scv valve cause the issues with the glowplug light as well as the glowplugs then?

The glow plug light from hazy memory (herself usually drives the avensis) doesn't come on again on mine.
