Hi

I've had my sr180 for about 6 month now after having German cars most of my 27 years of driving

At first I was not sure about the car ( bought from lindops with 42k on the clock ) and took a dislike to it

But at the age of fifty my partner say I should slow down but I can't so I've started changing bits and bobs so if I can pick ur brains here go''s

Do they make an induction kits for the sr180

I've been to lindops to ask about tuning boxes but at £470 fitted I was I bit taken back is there an alternative looked into blue chip and tai makes but not sure

I've order a iPod /usb box that fits in the standard stereo not sure how that will be but I will let u know

If cost is a thing for tuning boxes ... Then blue spark are a good choice ( very common on here for people have the tuning boxes ) the majority of people who have chips seem to have either the lindop or the blue spark .... I run a blue spark on my own Auris and hasn't faltered or failed to amuse me I have also ran a lindop chip until I sold the previous car. There are many on the market and many people will have their own opinion, it's always good to see if someone has a printout for proof of claimed output or lots of good reviews ... And very easy to fit yourself .... There is no induction kit as such yet unless you create a custom one yourself you need a filter the right size and somewhere to mount the MAF sensor ... So a panel filters are a plenty .... Also you could remove the snail bit on the airbox to remove some of that very restrictive airflow that Toyota put on it ... But their isn't much else atm for performance as the biggest issue is the incredibly well encrypted ecu can't be remapped ( Yet I'm working with a nearby remap centre to try and crack it ) ...

Thanks for the info I notice that your car is a Motorsport as is mine is their a difference between a standard sr180 and the motorsport

Or are they the same car

I believe besides suspension brakes and looks they are the same

As far as I'm aware all the basic spec of SR180's is the same. Only extras like leather upholstery & sat-nav were options. Oh, the sunroofs too !

I got the metal intake pipe from the states where a guy specialises in making them. Mine was actually made for Scooby Impreza but fits just fine. you could of course use extra piping to extend the air filter down into the cooler air at the side of the Battery. Personally I just wanted to try using the base of the standard air box to shield the worst of the heat away & keep the standard intake pointing straight at the cone filter. I didn't notice any difference in power, but I did run it for a few weeks with no warning lights or issues at all. I've just taken it off the car as I will be trading it in soon for something newer.

Ive fitted K&N 57i kits to several cars, a Fiesta XR2i, a Honda Prelude Vtech and a Mondeo V6....I think I've finally learned my lesson....they arent worth it. Several years back I was lucky enough to take my Mondeo to Superchips to have my car used as a Guinea pig for a engine map for the 2.5V6 - which they hadnt developed. MY car at the time had a K&N 57i kit fitted. When they rolling roaded it prior to the chip, it clocked 174BHP....6BHP over the standard 168BHP. They had to stop work on my car and work on something Tiff Needel brought in from Silverstone, so I took my car on a hot summers afternoon to a garage, bought lunch and returned...straight back on the rolllers....170BHp....why? Simples...Heatsoak. I had the same problem on all the other cars too, especially the Honda. You get stuck in traffic jams on a summers day, heat builds in the engine, then foot down, the 57i sucks up all the initial heat in the engine bay, you suffer terrible acceleration for a second, then cold air gets into the engine bay, and whoosh away you go...catching up with all the 1.3 Astras that are already ahead of you lol. Dont be fooled thinking you can channel extra cold air feeds into the bay to overcome this...I tried...they dont help when you are stuck in traffic and move away, especially in the summer. They may help claw another horse power on the open road, but, really? YOu dont notice it.

With the Auris, I decided to let experience teach me something, finally....Panel filters. Slot one in the the manufacturers airbox, and you get cooler air right from the word go...ok on the open road it might be 1-3 BHP down on the 57i, but you dont get annoying heatsoak and engine lag in traffic....and it did improve the snappyness and throttle response of the engine. Works even better with the Blue Spark chip I have fitted. Wider power band (pulls from 1700-4200 as opposed to 2000-4000) faster through the gears, Pulls in 6th and 70mph too...which without the chip meant changing down to 5th.

Sorry I've not been in touch beags due to work commitment looking what's involved I think I will go down the panel filter route

I also had induction kits on minis / nova / xr2 and a like in my youth

Relivinmyyouth I haven't had time to fit the yatour yet hopefully in the next few day I have everything I need now to fit it so but I will let you know when it's done and how it sounds

quite simply.. no..

k&n make these 57i "kits" for nearly any car you can think of. unless a company makes a system specific for your car/engine that has has proper research and development carried out to make it and with proven dyno printouts then dont waste your time with this tat. otherwise its best to just get a panel filter from k&n or pipercross etc.

the 57i may or may not make your car sound throat-ier but chances are you will be down on power at some point in the rev range.

Yeah it sound like that in real life. If you will get cone the sound will be nice, I have one and it's worth it. Panel, no.

You can route it behind the front bumper using silicone pipes or use a heat shield. It won't have negative effect though, but no positive neither. You need more cold basically for more HP. But if you can't get any more out because of engine type, why bother?
