Hi,

I tried to plug my old power inverter into my auris cigarette lighter tonight without any luck.

Does anyone know if there is such a compatible device please?

Best wishes,

John

Is the problem that there physically isn't enough space to plug it into the socket? I do find the lighter socket in the Auris annoyingly close to the handbrake lever. Have you considered using a 12v lighter socket extension lead?

Plenty of space to fit the connection just doesnt work - works in my wife's Fabia ok.

Must be either DC lighter or to little voltage maybe?

Apologies for perhaps a daft question but are you testing it with the ignition switched on?! The Auris lighter socket is switched through the ignition switch (most if not all Toyotas seem to be wired like this) whereas on the majority of cars it's permanently live.

Other than that the lighter socket in the Auris is the same as any other car, eg 12v DC.

Hi, yes I have tried the ignition both on and off.

Is there any hidden sockets in the car please?

I don't know of any other sockets in the Auris, unless they are so well hidden I haven't found them!

Have you checked the fuses to see if the one for the lighter socket has blown?

Well that is very odd. We use all sorts of accessories, chargers etc in the lighter socket in our Auris with no issues at all.

All there is really to go wrong with a lighter socket connection is if the central pin of the plug on whatever you are trying to plug into it doesn't protrude quite far enough to touch the positive terminal at the back of the socket. The pin is usually sprung so it's sometimes worth flicking the pin with your thumb just to check it's not stuck in.

Other than that I'm stumped! As I mentioned before car lighter sockets are always 12v DC and the Auris is no different, so there's not any reason for your inverter to be incompatible with the cars electrics.

Logic would dictate that the problem is that your plug isn't going far enough into the lighter socket to make contact.

I don't know if there is anything odd about the Auris lighter socket because my Tom Tom plug which worked ok on my previous car jammed solid in the Auris lighter socket.

It might be worth a punt to get an extension type lead from your socket and plug into that.

I bought an aftermarket plug for my Tom Tom and it worked fine.

Have you checked the fuse inside the power inverter plug? all devices that use the 12v socket have their own fuse inside.
