Hi Konrad!

First of all thank you very much for your great work, I have read everything you wrote about this units. I want to buy some unit to my Avensis '06 only because of music streaming via bluetooth. But I would like to ask you:

1. Nowadays I can find only 2 or 3 units - Yatour, Xcarlink2 and in one shop also Dension. Do you think bluetooth streaming quality of Yatour is like built-in CD changer or is it lower? I want something really good, if the bluetooth is not so good I won't buy it and stay with my aux cable.

2. I have read also some issues with the stability of bluetooth, some people have to restart bluetooth everytime they want to play music with Yatour. Do you have any experience with that?

3. And finally, there is also Xcarlink2 in shops but the price is double than for Yatour. Do you think is it worth it? Is there big difference in BT sound quality and stability?

Thank you very much for your help, time and answer, I appreciate it a lot.

Hi Jan.

I have not heard the Yatour, Xcarlink2 or Dension, but suspect they use similar Bluetooth A2DP technology. The sound quality should be good and in stereo - unlike the cheap LA Power which plays the music in mono! The other issue, is the sound level is not high enough or matching the other sources. These unit are proven, so sound should be fine.

bluetooth has to be strong and depends on the both the adapter and the phone. Another factor is the location of the adapter in the car. The brands you mention should have good bluetooth performance. I have not had any issues with bluetooth signal with my system, the built in car (voice only), nor my old Novero in my previous Avensis.

I already covered brand Bluetooth stability above and cannot personally answer, not having heard all the devices. It would be best to read user reviews of the devices you are interested in.

I mainly play my music via USB memory stick and the sound is good. Both Bluetooth and USB/SD sound are affected by the MP3 quality.

If you can get a good deal then the better. Below some of the devices and reviews from customers :-
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dension-GBL3TO1-non-text-Bluetooth-Interface/dp/B008KMNHLE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1510125943&sr=8-1&keywords=dension+toyota

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yatour-Digital-Changer-Bluetooth-charging/dp/B014R3340I/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1510126006&sr=1-2&keywords=yatour+toyota

Pricewise, if you are only going to use Bluetooth and not USB, then I would go for the Yatour. The other brands seem very pricey. Look out for the deals.

Hi Mohammed,

There is one problem since your car is the Nav version. Even though is has a CD changer port, the wiring may not be compatible. Don't buy without further research and consulting with the company or seller!

I am currently using the Wefa Bluetooth/MP3 via USB/ AUX. The best one I have used for the money at £70 and well integrated - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Music-Streaming-Bluetooth-Telephone-Toyota-Avensis-Charger-2xUSB-AUX-SD-Module-6/132989857232?hash=item1ef6d02dd0:g:tDwAAOSwo8Nci6Mf
Other brands to watch out for are as follows:-
For a high quality unit that cost £105, the Dension Gateway Lite BT - https://www.dension.com/automotive/products/car-multimedia-solutions/gateway-lite-bt or https://www.amazon.co.uk/DENSION-Gateway-Lite-Lexus-Toyota/dp/B008KMNHLE/ref=sr_1_4?crid=28UDI4FUXPC7R&keywords=dension+gateway+lite+bt&qid=1577183041&sprefix=dension+gateway+%2Caps%2C162&sr=8-4

Yatour is another brand. Prices vary and are cheaper from Germany if you are prepared to wait -  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-SD-AUX-MP3-Adaptor-and-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Equipment-for-TOYOTA-Avensis/283696113359?epid=2104051459&hash=item420d9b26cf:g:9iAAAOSwx9takAI7

Avoid the Apps2car model. Unlike the others which work promptly through the steering controls, this need a wired remote. Also if you was using another source like the radio or CD, phone calls and nav direction from the phone will not work without manually switching to the adapter! My Wefa adapter does this. It interrupts the music or what ever source when needed. The Dension sort of does this, but with one button press according to the manual https://www.dension.com/files/products/gateway_lite_bt/gbl-9231-2_gateway_lite_bt_user_web.pdf.

bluetooth only with AUX (no USB playback) see this from Connects2 - https://connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/CTATYBT002

Connects2 USB adapter with AUX, bluetooth interface is extra - https://connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/CTATYUSB002

As I stated before these work of most 6+6 CD changer sockets at the rear, except for the NAV variants which are some how wired differently, eventhough the plug is the same. I don't which Toyota did this.

Hope this helps.

I got this on amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00Y29NXEA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1  and it solved my problem with the media content in my car. The adapter is bluetooth 5.0 and it connects to the car via aux in. i conect to the car bluetooth for calls and the adapter for media content.

This is a simple and reasonable solution, but in the UK it's better to have full integration, due to the laws. Using the bluetooth adapter in the Aux socket part works, but you will need to learn the voice commands, where as the CD changer adapters have full steering wheel control of most functions. I was sure there was Toyota that had a function where you could plug a phone into the AUX socket, and control the function from the steering wheel! I hoped my Avensis had this, but it did not, so I went the Bluetooth/SD/USB route.
The worse type of adapter is the awful FM transmitters. Will never touch those.

I have found that the Yatour YTM-TOY2 adapter plugs into the Toyota B9010 Nav unit and works perfectly with it. Oddly enough Yatour themselves say that the adapter DOES NOT work with the B9010 !

There were a few adapters that quoted the same non compatibility with some head units. Also, some later basic head units like W53828 was not even listed!
Once Toyota made standard bluetooth music streaming and USB on even the basic stereo, there may be less demand. But there are a lot of cars without these functions on the road. The adapters are quick and easy to fit. That's why I chose this route of upgrade.
