Auris Dash Cam Wiring

Hello David

For my installation, the centre console roof light assembly was held in place by 4 pop clips.
They take a bit of force to pop off, an ice scraper helped me pry it off (see photo's below).

Hopefully Toyota have not changed the design, can't think why they would.

I have re-inserted the photos as they seem to have been turned into URL links in my old post above.

Thanks, I will look again at the assembly. Regarding a piggyback into a fuse, admittedly the Nextbase - recommended solution, all the fuses on my Auris hybrid model seem to be in the engine bay. I would need to run the wire through the bulkhead (and parallel with the wiring loom), which I would be concerned could easily get damaged.

If one downloads the full owners manual from https://www.toyota.co.uk/tme#/my-toyota/eManual the location of the fuses should be detailed in the manual.

I think you will find your fuses behind the glove box. Very easy to get at.

So i have had Viofo A119 on Auris. First i planned to hardwire it to indoor lights, but there was no success to find +12V from those. I saw @Frostbite-UK 's writing about hardwiring and gave it a try.

Dashcam has been over a year wired via A-pilar to power output center console and i really didnt like it, but there it was waiting for me to do something to it.

Auris electric documents shows that yes: White/Black(WB) is Ground and Blue(L) is +12V feed for rear view mirror Automatic glare:

So away goes light assembly:

These two wires goes to rear view mirror. Had to measure BW wire -> plug to make sure because there is also another BW wire what goes to automatic lights sensor and that is going to ECU, so no no grounding to that wire!

I added two female connectors to those wires for easy disconnect 12V->5V powersupply if it ever needs to be replaced

12V->5V powersupply gets nice soft Place to rest. I taped all wires back so they cannot move and make any noise.

qettyz 's Description encouraging. I just need to get the courage to force off that central light unit. As i've said, mine has two mysterious small black positions, although not apparently containing screws. On my 2016 Auris Hybrid, there just aren't any fuses behind the glovebox - see photo - so piggybacking a fuse does not seem to be an option.

When i took light panel first time off, it needed some good force. Even so that i roof wanter to bend with the panel. Now second time it was easy.

May be that if its taken away enought time then plastic pins need to be replaced.

Edit: https://www.toyota-tech.eu you get 2 hour access to all tech documents of the car for 3€(was for me). Small ammount to pay for making sure how to remove light panel if unsure.

Hi,

Nice and clean, but I have an question:

You use Viofo and Viofo 119 has parkingmode. So do you have always electric to your cam thru mirror wiring? (I don't think so but.. Always ask :)  )

I have the new Viofo A129 Duo and want to enable parking mode. So need juice after closing car :)

Otherwise I must get the wire all to the fuse box.

Ref. my previous messages, just to say that after a break to paint our house, I now have installed my Nextbase 312GW in our 2016 Auris Hybrid. Many thanks to those who offered advice, including how access the Toyota repair manual. I bought a £5 moulding remover set to ease off the central light unit (needed some leverage and I did crack it a bit but superglue did a repair), and successfully tapped the mirror circuit.

Already did that 🙂

Mine was first installed in my previous - 2008 Auris, then I sold it, scraped the base off the windscreen with a shaving blade and then used the spare 3M adhesive that came with the camera.

Just for future reference, a good way of getting glued Dashcam mounts off a windscreen is to "saw" at the side of the pad (between the glass and the mount) with dental floss. You get through a metre or two of the stuff because it frays and snaps when it heats up from the action. It took about ten minutes to do, then when the mount is off the window the residual glue just peels off both the glass and the mount. It's very therapeutic.

Or an old credit/debit card may also be used. I prefer that method because it is a bit kinder to the fingers. Fishing line is a good alternative too by being stronger than dental floss.
