......... why that 143bhp Celica cylinder head I bought on eBay only cost me £75 lol8ad033f3e39080d64f56e30a4bf9fce6.jpge2560108da2fb4e2a2787bac260f167e.jpgf057c0a32031b9b69aa0b2b5be03bf01.jpge6d0802de6ff829efc426234dc9652d7.jpg

Was gonna put in to local machine shop for a pressure test n skimming looks like it'll be going in for at least 2 maybe 4 valve guides too now lol

OR get it straight back on to eBay.

Sorry, Bob, couldny resist that.

At least it settles any questions about it bein' an interference engine.

Oh you have a cruel sense of humour haha.

Yeah I reckon that pretty much solves that question...... definitely try not to snap the timing chain on a vvti lol

That is the risk of buying from eBay. Still, it may be cheaper to replace the valves/guides. I wonder how bad the rest of the engine is?

When you fix the head, it should go better. Take some photos of both Celica and Avensis heads for comparison. I wonder if the valves are larger on the Celica to give the extra power?

If you fitted the complete Celica engine/transmission, that would have been interesting. The 6 speed gearbox has been done by a clever Scottish mechanic, on this forum.

I hope I didn't put any more ideas, for your project?

  • 2 months later...

Valves are exactly the same size on both, from what I've been able to find out so far the main difference appears to be a larger throttle body, slightly different intake manifold, single cat after the manifolld as. opposed to twin cats as part of the ex manifolld and the obligatory different ECU, still have to confirm that this is true but seems to be :)

Had a quick look through the 2000 Celica workshop manual. I emailed myself with both parts attached but completely forgot about it until I was on lunchbreak and checking my emails about an hour ago. Looked at it briefly and the 1ZZ-FE Celica has a three-way cat underneath rather then as part of the exhaust manifold like we do in the Avensis which has to be a bonus of sorts particularly if it allows the making and fitting a much better extractor style exhaust manifold..... interesting lol
