Iq Insurance Cost

I recently bought a lowish mileage 2009 base model and I'm basically reasonably happy with it, although I must say it's a schizophrenic beast: on start-up and low speeds its sounds like cross between a lawn-mower and a minor Messerschmidt: on the move it transforms into something that could almost fool you into thinking that it has four, not three, cylinders. Odd experience. Very odd indeed...

To the main topic. One of the aspects which attracted me to this pretentious* little car is that it appeared to come in Group 3 for insurance purposes. I therefore naturally expected that a late septuagenarian doing about 4,000 miles a year and with a clean licence would secure a very low rate. I was s t a g g e r e d to discover the reality, viz quotations from £426,00 to £750.00!!!

What is other other folks' experience in general and those of you of a similar age to myself in particular? Also, does the discount offered on this site make any difference at all? By what comparative percentage?

*Pretentious? It's marketed as a premium vehicle but in my perception there's nothing premium about the look of the cabin; it doesn't even have seat height adjustment for the driver; generally the inside ambient is lack-lustre and certainly doesn't have the upmarket 'feel' I anticipated when you remember the inflated price Toyota wanted for it when new. Meanwhile for the life of me I cant seem to find out how to (a) obtain BBC Radio 4 on that irritatingly fiddly steering-wheel control (b) the mpg readout. Guidance appreciated, please.

As regards the 'premium' tag, it is similar to other premium city cars. For example it is better equipped and finished than the equivalent age Toyota Aygo, and this is what the 'premium' qualities should be compared to.

Other examples of manufacturers selling premium and less premium city cars are:

1. Fiat - premium the 500, less premium the Panda

2. GM (Vauxhall) - premium the Adam, less premium the Viva

3. VAG - premium the Up, less premium the Skoda Citigo/Seat Mio

Really it depends what you're comparing the 'premium' qualities to. If it is other city cars, fine. Anything else is a different category of vehicle (eg superminis).

How have you obtained your comparative quotes - comparison sites? Most aren't impartial, and most are owned either by insurance companies or insurance brokers, with a bias towards their products.
