Full-Sized Steel Wheel For Spare, 64-Reg Avensis 2.0 Icon Manual

I have a 64-reg T27 1st reg 30/09/2014 Avensis 2.0D Icon manual. Fine so far, about 9k miles since I bought it, ex-Enterpr"se rent-a-wr....

It has a skinny spare - 17-4T, & as I have to drive 1000mile round trips from time to time I really don't fancy several hundred miles on a 50mph-limited skinny, especially as I might be in the snowy highlands of Scotland. It has 4 x 17in alloys.

I had a steel-spare on my old, 08, Avensis - which ,also had 17in alloys, a 16inch 6 1/2 J, from Toyota, part number 42611-05280. I called my local Mr T spares to enquire what steel spares were suitable & would the one I have be OK & got the reply "nah mate, we're not allowed to give out part numbers".

Anyone got any suggestions (apart from swapping the wheels & trying - the steel spare being 505 miles away, don't ask..) for establishing if a 42611-05280 would be OK??

We will leave the question of rolling circumferences & tyre sizes for another time...and yes I know the bolts will be different so I'd better have 5 of the right ones in the boot.

Any other views on driving on a skinny or the sensible-ness or not of having a full-sized spare??

Regards & thanks in advance??

According to http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_2014_TOYOTA_AVENSIS_ADT270R-AEFEYW_4103.html the part numbers for spare wheels for that car are 42611-05300, 42611-05320, 42611-03560 or 42611-03561. The two first part numbers are also the part numbers for the regular wheels. I had to guess what kind of body your car had, so it's best if you fill in your cars details on the page http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q_E_2014_TOYOTA_AVENSIS_all.html and see if you get the same result. According to http://www.wheel-size.com/size/toyota/avensis/2008/ your old car has 5x100 wheels, while http://www.wheel-size.com/size/toyota/avensis/2014/ says that your new car has 5x114.3, so your old spare wouldn't fit. What I would do in your situation is look for a second hand wheel. Anything from 2009 or newer Avensis should fit.

How many punctures have you had over the last few years? Weigh that up against the possibility of getting one, and weigh that up with the chances of getting one in a remote location or in snow.

Personally I think a space saver is enough.

Oh.... Perhaps that's why I've had so few punctures....

42611-05280 is listed at http://ersatzteile-toyota.com/TOY-42611-05280 as 5x114.3, was the old car a 2.2 diesel (only 2.2s used 5x114 on the T25, all other engines had wheels with 5x100)?

other sites list 42611-05280 as 5x100.

what engine was your 08. only the 2.2 had PCD off 114.3 which is what you need now. your toyota were being awkward my Toyota dont mind to be honest most of the time I have to explain what I want and what part number.

this website is very good

It looks like the (crappy) website I linked to earlier doesn't even know about the 2.2. I checked 42611-05280 at toyodiy, and it came up as belonging to cars with the 2AD-FTV and 2AD-FHV engines: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/xref?s=42611-05280&mE=on which is the 2.2

Thanks guys: Now I think back when I bought the steel originally from Mr T it turned out to have been not "new" as per invoice but pre-used, and either that one or the provided-after-argument-new-replacement had the wrong PCD also - I remember puzzling over it at the time, ending up drawing paper circles showing the different 'ole locations to get a slightly-less-than-bright small-ish dealer to sort it.. But I did have it on my old car a couple of times.

Yes, my old Avensis was 2.2D4D: I'll go and check with careful tape-measure when I next make the 1,000 mile round trip & if it looks OK use the "old" wheel. i.e. I'm not sure if the paperwork I had for the old wheel is/was correct anyway...

Ain't forums like these great! Thanks everybody...

Best regards!

well, if it fitted your old 2.2 T25 it will fit your 2.0 T27.
