Spacesaver Spare Wheel Kit

My 2015 Verso Trend came with tyre sealant and inflator ... can't say I'm very confident that this will be satisfactory in event of a blow-out :disgust:

Has anyone sourced a space-saver spare wheel kit recently (last post I could find was almost 3yr old)?

Would you recommend?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

From what I've seen the grade revision in May 2015 included a space saver spare for models without the Skyview roof and tyre sealant for models with. Toyota also appear to have dropped the 2.0 litre diesel from the range sometime in 2015.

Not sure why spares aren't provided on models with the Skyview roof, unless it is something to do with the rigidity of the bodyshell being affected should a spare be fitted in the boot.

May be best to speak to your Toyota dealer especially if you have the Skyview roof.

it is the same on the Avensis (at least the Tourer), my guess was a weight issue - it all affects the fuel economy/taxation.

Adding the spare wheel kit to a Verso with "Skyview" would push the car up a tax band due to the additional weight of the roof and wheel kit.

Thank you for the feedback.

It's a Feb 2015 1.6 D-4D which I bought a couple of months ago to replace my 2009 2-0 D-4D, and hadn't realized that it didn't come with a spare wheel.

I'll ask my local dealer to quote for the spacesaver spare-wheel kit ... but wondered whether a full size wheel & tyre would fit in the tyre well - of course I would then need to source a jack, wheel-nut spanner, etc.!!

The thumbnails Devon Aygo supplied include the jack, etc. Could you update your profile to show the 1.6D4D.

I bought one direct from my Toyota dealer about 18months ago for around £95. It included spacesaver wheel, foam padded shape, plastic trim etc for boot area and bolt for attaching in boot. Found it was much cheaper than i could find on eBay or Amazon. Fitted my 2011 Verso T Spirit D4d

Just returned from my Toyota dealer in a more relaxed frame of mind :blow:

Ordered spacesaver kit a couple of days ago, collected this afternoon.

Price was £135 - but I reckon good value, if had needed to use (and re-order) can of sealant foam (approx £80?) and buy new tyre (£100 +) in event of having had a puncture. On top of potential saving, I understand reason for not supplying spare with new car was to keep weight (and emissions) down so annual VED only £30, so no complaints!

even if you didn't need to use your can of sealant it will go out of date requiring replacement quicker than a tyre anyway.

I too bought a spacesaver for my car for peace of mind. :)

Hi all,

Potential future Verso owner here and I'm looking to clarify something that I continue to receive mixed responses on. Can absolutely all Versos (regardless of spec/extras) can accept a space saver to be stored under the boot? I've enquired with some that I see for sale and the response from the dealer basically says "no, it just has a kit". My understanding was that by removing the kit and the polystyrene piece it sits in that this well would fit a wheel?

Cars I'm looking at are probably 2012-2014 T Spirit / Icon / Excel / Trend.

Many thanks

To clarify what I'm up against, I just received this reply when I asked regarding one I saw for sale:

There wouldn’t be enough space to fit a space saver after taking the weld compressor out.

Hi g0g,

Speaking from personal experience of Versos with & without a spare wheel, but no specialist knowledge (!), a Verso comes either with a spare wheel, or with the tyre sealant & compressor. If its the latter then as you say all you need to do is to remove the polystyrene tray holding the sealant & compressor & replace in the well with a space-saver spare wheel, the indentations for fitting the new jack, spanner etc are already in place.

I've never had a Skyroof version so can't comment on that model, but I'm sure there are others who can.

PS. I also looked on eBay before purchasing the space-saver kit (which includes jack & spanner), but found it was cheaper (and easier) to order from my local Toyota dealer.

what you may also run into in some parts depts. is if they key the reg, no. of a car that was supplied with a "gunge kit" into the Toyota system it won't show a spare as available against the car (because it was supplied with a gunge kit). You then need to find a parts person with enough nowse to work around the system to get the parts nos. from a car supplied with a spare. That's what happened with my Avensis - the spare of course fits perfectly. ;)

I'm sure if some versions of the Verso couldn't be fitted with a spacesaver spare, then Devon Aygo, who works for a Toyota dealer, would have said so at post 4. It isn't fitted as standard on Verso's with the Skyview roof due to weight and tax reasons The parts numbers are also provided at post 4.

Thanks you everyone, really appreciate the quick reply. Yeah I had assumed the Skyview replaced the option of a wheel due to weight/emissions etc but want to be absolutely certain. At least 3 different car dealers (granted not Toyota) have told me you couldn't add one to the models they were selling.

As one final confirmation it'd be great to hear from an owner who actually has a Skyview and has fitted one in themselves.

Incidentally another of the replies I received:

Your enquiry regarding our Toyota Verso T SPIRIT D-4D LEATHER SAT NAV PAN ROOF 2.0
Good morning Gareth, Regarding the Verso , i have checked for a spare wheel and unfortunately they don't have one, but there is a tyre inflation kit , and looking i personally think there is no room for one either any more questions please contact me on XXXXX XXXXXX kind regards Darren (fcrosscars.co.uk)

Noticed this trail of posts about the lack of a spare wheel in Versos with a Skyview screen. I too am not happy about this and have raised a query with my local Toyota dealer about sourcing a kit for my 2012 model. I've also joined this Club! I'll let you know how I get on.

Here's an update from my previous post on 27th Feb. I now have a secondhand 17inch spacesaver wheel ordered from a breakers yard for £72 inc delivery. Did a trial fit and everything is fine. The wheel doesn't go in the boot well but I'm not fussed. Will put it in a cover to protect the other boot contents. Never had a reply from my Toyota dealer.

check the manufacturing date of the tyre - they should be replaced ~7 years old.

Did you get a wheel carrier to retain it? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Toyota-Spare-Wheel-Carrier-Auris-Hybrid-Verso-5193102020-/221838368836

Just bought space saver tyre with plastic bag for the jack(already had jack) from Toyota Watford for £105.62. They kindly fitted it into the wheel well FOC.

Sorry, that price was for Auris 2013, it came with a jack.

Hi,

Its been quite a while since I posted on this forum and it is interesting how people really don't like the idea of not having a spare wheel. I notice that Ford have now provided spare wheels in both the Galaxy and the S max so maybe some manufacturers are listening to what the customer actually wants, perhaps Toyota will do the same.

On another note for anyone who lives in Lancashire and needs a  space-saver wheel for their 2010 onwards verso, I have one sat in my garage that I purchased new from Toyota 4 years ago to fit in my vehicle and I kept when I traded it in (it has never been used).

I am not wanting a lot for it but if anyone has a problem getting one from their local Toyota dealer, it seems a shame for this one to sit unused in my garage.

Apologies for any cross-posting, but I'm new around these parts and don't know my way around yet. I'm buying a 64 reg Auris Touring Icon Plus, which means it comes with 16 inch alloys that look about right for shredding lettuces. (Otherwise completely normal, with the usual five-stud fittings.)

Whereas all the space saver wheels I'm seeing for Aurises seem to be 17 inch. I'm assuming that this is just because the space saver tyre is thinner, and that a 17 inch space saver will substitute for a 16 inch standard tyre. Is that correct?

Thanks

Mike

The rolling radius of the standard tyres/alloy package will be the same (or very, very close) irrespective of 16" or 17" alloys so the spacesaver wheel/tyre package will also be made to have the same rolling radius.

Hi, I know this is a long shot given the age of this thread, but do you still have that spare wheel?
