Why you shouldn't use a car wash...

That hand car wash place is just up the road from where I live, and I remember once I took my Peugeot 107 to it because it was the summer and the local birds had defecated all over the thing. They couldn't get some of the bird crap off, so they took a bit of hard plastic to it and got rid of it. Drove it home, car dried off, and low and behold a few nasty deep scratches because of it.

Never went there again.

This is why I wash my own car.

Search for DetailingWorld and you’ll NEVER use a car wash again - “hand” car washes are a nightmare no matter how good. A sponge contacting paint sets anyone in the know’s teeth on edge [emoji1787][emoji2357]

I also had a few scratches of my car from hand car washing. I don't have much time to do it myself, so i look for another car washing and warn them, that  my car has never been scratched and I 'am so sensitive to it, if I found any scratch after they wash it, I will not pay them, instead they are the ones to pay me ;-)

And what happened?

I've used a hand car wash near me on my last 3 (and current) cars for the last 8 years, and haven't noticed anything untoward.  All but one have been plain white, and I'd have thought that, if any colour, that would show up any problems.  They've always got bird muck off too, and occasionally they've removed the odd black mark where something plastic has rubbed against the car.

Sure if I drove a car costing £200,000 upwards I'd probably be using one of the specialist hand cleaners who comes to the house and spends all day (and charges accordingly - I can't remember exactly, but a program I watched some time ago about one such fella said he charged a four figure sum per clean).  A bit steeper than mine who charge £14 (was £12 for the Prius) to do my RAV4 inside and out, including a thorough glass clean in and out and a wipe of all the dash surfaces and door trims.

IMO, Pete, a darker colour shows swirls more then lighter ones iewhite, silver.  My red Gen4 Prius can show marks much more then the loads of silver ones I have had.
