I would be very interested in finding a cheaper source of key fobs..

We have a "new" Carina GTi 93 with a single button key fob...

As we only got the one key fob and have had problems getting into our old carina due to flat Battery and alarm /deactivation (after a long search we found an old key fob) we decided to get a spare key fob for the Gti...

Toyota quoted £85 because it was an old single button type

My 95 Carina has 2 button key fob (red & black button + red LED).

Spoke to a scrappy and he doesn't keep 'em. But I don't know if thats the norm..

We also had a quote for £37 for a copy of the key fob at a key cutting place... How's that done then?

Hope you can all help get the key fob prices down..

When I went to collect my s/hand '97 Carina one of the key fobs was found to have a defective Battery.

They replaced the Battery but found it still wouldn't operate.

(After reference to the cars handbook) apparently the method is to press both buttons simultaneously for a few seconds which 'reprogrammes' it.

It worked after that.

I have a 1994 Carina with MW-8371 alarm with 08190-00821 as a part number.

I've had the car for 6 months now and I have just found out it had remote locking. Am I right in thinking I need a single button remote as I have aquired a 2 (red/Black) one which doesn't program.

This link may be of help to you guys but it didn't help me much as Avensis is not in there

http://www.kaba-ilco.com/key_systems/pdf/2...2-E-1105%5D.pdf

Can anyone tell me how to programme the Key Fob for Avensis T3-S

Toyota is quoting me £140 for a new one.

Just wondered if it was worth buying one from E-Bay and getting it re-programmed.

:help:

The cheapest way is to go to a specialist key shop which has an RW3 machine:

http://www.nwkeys.co.uk/Portal.aspx?page=43∏=7503

These have only just been released and you may need to contact Aldridge to find out if they have supplied one to a locksmith in your area.

It is the ONLY machine which can 'clone' a Toyota - Texas 4D key

I have a '97 Carina-e. I'm having difficulty opening the key fob to change its Battery.

Is there some special trick?

The fob has a black button to arm/disarm alarm/immobiliser, and a red panic button. There's a strange three pin white thing on the side. All attempts to open have so far failed :crybaby:

Please help! (Spare no longer works after son threw it in a bucket of water; I'm scared to use current one as Battery seems to be dying)

TRY THIS; TAKE BATTERIES OUT. PUT FINGERS WHERE BATTERIES GO TO DISCHARGE ANT CAPACITANCE! PUT BATTERIED BACK. CLOSE UP AND POINT FOB AT BONNET AREA AND PRESS BOTH BUTTONS FOR 10 SEC. THEN PRESS ONE BUTTON!

I THINK

Do you want to programme remote central locking or enable another key to the immobilizer? They are two separate systems and there are two different procedures.

The oval shaped remotes are synchronized by standing close to the car, press both buttons for the count of twelve and then either lock or unlock just once. Especially useful after changing batteries.

You have a Scorpion aftermarket alarm. Oblong rmote with two buttons side by side and sometimes with a little red LED. The remote is split along its length, with a clip at the hanger end. The little bracket that has the hanger in looks like it is joined to both halves of the case. It is only on the bottom half. Look for the join line and just prise it apart. The Battery is a small cylindrical 12V. A bit like a camera Battery.

Ray, thanks for going through the trouble of responding. (Thanks also to Muariff - I had already sent him a PM thanks as I didn't want to clutter this forum!).

You're spot on! I wish I could send a pic to help others. I couldn't tell it was 'aftermarket' as the fob has a toyota Badge.

Thanks millions!

To Paddocker:

My Story:

My name is Anhar, and my brothers Keb Fob was dropped on the floor and the Battery become undone and left for more than half an hour. Needless to say when we discovered the fey fob on the floor a certain amount of panic set in.

To add to the dilemma the car was parked on a double yellow line, and locked with the key fob, it was late at night and opening the car with the key would set the alarm off and also the car would naturally not start. Therefore we needed to move the car at all costs, because it would have been fined and towed away.

So we rushed home (in my car) and searched for the spare key fob, alas it too did not work (although it had worked before)

In The mean time I was googling like crazy trying to find out all that I could, I had a hunch that some resync-ing mode must be implemented (being a programmer/Engineer/Electronics student).

Long story short, I found this post, Voila!!. went back for the THIRD time and tried it, failed, tried again failed, then tried for the Fourth time but this time from the opposite side of the Drivers side, and it worked (weird)my guess is that the car must have been built left hand drive and switched over for UK side, therefore the actual "drivers" side was the opposite side.

Anyway after it resynced and worked it was like a HUGE relief and lifesaver, you can not know how much we appreciate your Wonderful Nugget of Information. I registered with this board in order to says Thanks, so:

Thank you Paddocker!!

Regards

Anhar

Hi All,

Today, I just received my additional remote key fob with two-button and red LED after won in e-bay. It is just same part number of the previous one.

With delighted, I tried to resync with my carinma-e 1996 reg. But, failed. At night, I changed new Battery, then still failed. About what I did:

1. Change the Battery

2. Goes to my lovely carina-e

3. Open and lock the door with my previous one to test

4. Then press both two button together, then cound 10, 15 or 20.

5. Still failed. By the way, my previous one still works.

Now, these are my questions:

1. Do I have to disconnect the Battery and reconned to reset systems? When I jumped my carina-e before, I could resync with my previous one just same way as above.

2. Is there any missing procedures? e.g. stand somewhere of my carina-e, open or close the door, put key in ignition switch or not, and so on.

3. When changed battery, the notice mentioned that the battery should be changed within 10 minutes. Is it essential?

4. When I pull the other side of batter which just below the button side, I could see some digits with red marked for 97, 06, 01. Does it mean 1997 reg or something?

5. Later on, when I could resync my additional key fob, can I use both key-fob together? I and my wife are sharing this car, therfore it should be used respectively.

Thanks for your kind answers in advance.

Yesterday, I could clone my master key from Locksmiths in Coventry. Thet charged me 65 sterlings for cloning. There is no need to rerogramming key, because they cloned itself.

About remote fob, tey charged me 120 sterlings, and then I gave up remote fob. By the way, I asked him about secondhand remote fob from e-bay. He said, even the same part number, they are using different frequencies to communicate with ECU. If your spare remote do not work with ECU, thy could reprogram the frequency. It will be charged 40 sterlings. It seem still cosly solution, but looks reliable.

For your reference.

Toyota Celica VVTi190 (2000) Key reprogramming - This works!!!

My remote suddenly decided to stop working today. Typically when I was in a rush to get to work and needed something from the car!

I figured since I've had the car a while that the Battery must be on it's way out even though the LED on the key fob still worked when the buttons were pressed.

Thankfully I was at home and had enough time to nip into town to Maplins to buy a new Battery (a CR1616).

However, after swapping the Battery it still refused to work and I couldn't use the car as I had no way of disabling the alarm.

Much to the annoyance of my neigbours after a couple of attempts!

I figured there must be a solution to this, and probably something to do with pairing the unit to the car again.

After a quick google I came across this forum :D

After reading through the good advice of Paddocker & Anhar's experience, combined with a little patience the following solution worked for me:

1. Stand directly next to the drivers door as near to the dash as possible

2. Hold the lock & unlock buttons down for 15 seconds

3. Lock & unlock the car using the remote

It took me a couple of attempts but it did work in the end!

Thanks guys

Just wanted to say a great big thank you to all on this particular thread! I had a Toyota Carina E 1995 M reg with the red/black side pin alarm last year and it failed. i read your threads and tried everything in it and it wouldn't re-synchronise and when i took it to Toyota they put it on the computer and the alarm was basically shot, not the Key fob itself.

Anyway it cost £450 quid to have the old alarm ripped out and a new one fitted.

Despite this trouble, I now have an R Reg Toyota Carina E CD 1997 and yesterday whilst at a Market atleast an hour from home, the Battery ran out on the key fob - i was pig sick as had left my master (central locking) key in the glove box and had to get AA out to break into the car. However managed to drive home, but spent all of yesterday upset as figured would be same problem as older car.

How wrong i was, we replaced the Battery and it still wouldn't work, so the only way i could get in the car without the siren going off (doesn't have a key to turn it off and can't figure out where siren is under the bonet) was to park car and without turning engine off, pop the bonet, and leave it in the up position then i could turn engine off and leave car parked up until i wanted to go out again, then i had to start engine before closing bonet - this makes you feel really stupid.

However i decided to take another look on here just in case and I love you all, cos i followed the "Press both buttons twice" approach for a 97 model as advised on here and it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So now i can drive my car without looking stupid anymore!

On a special note, the M Reg toyota is currently on eBay and parked up as it needs a new cat/exhaust and i can't afford it - so if any of you need a new alarm for your Toyota cos it's gone duff, then bid on it as it's a Scorpion Alarm/Immobiliser and it's only been fitted 6 months! Not same problems as traditional factory fitted alarm! That is off course if you have the knowledge to strip the immobiliser/alarm out of my toyota and fit it to yours.

Cara xx
