1998 2.0 Auto. Intermittent Starting.

Hi all

As the title suggests, my recently purchased 1998 2.0 Auto. Intermittent Starting.

A few days after purchase it wouldn't start - just clicked. I installed a new up-rated Battery. No joy...... The next day it fired up and it drove like a dream. I thought it was just the ECU settling in.

The next day: Turned over strongly, all dash lights on as normal, radio working - but it wouldn't fire at all. Not a cough.

It's got 3/4 of a tank of petrol, and the oil is topped up.

I'm not bad with a spanner - but this has got me scratching my head.

Any ideas?

Kind regards,

Mav

The main problem I have found circa your year is distributor problems, generally you get an indication earlier with an odd misfire, which can last for a few weeks then nothing... You could also check the gearbox switch.  and you won't get any fault codes if it is a faulty dizzy, you may have two intermittent faults, I believe if the gearbox switch is faulty the engine will not turn... you have had both problems it seems..
