Requires fettling/fitting + cleanup & paint!

£30 and I get a 'free' mahoosive LED brake light (good, as Carina is a low car)

SWMBO seatbelt latch has been loosly flopping about on its retaining bolt.... As if the hole was too big on the bolt 😕

50119024151_a9775a54da_c.jpg

After stripping out the plastic cover I discovered the spring/welch washer (presumably to allow wobbly movement but not 'rattly') has fretted away and snapped.... I tried to loosen the 14mm bolt but.. even with a tube on my ratchet.. couldn't break it away :(

Plan B formed as using twopack adhesive to flow into the void and 'gummie up' the hole/make movement stiffer ;)

The slight shine on the washer base is it, after glooping on with a piece of plastic.

50119032006_35f259cac8_c.jpg

Working just fine now(rattle-less).... see how it goes!

I have been on with the forming tool today, and cut this piece of laminate (19mm = the gap, where Nissan boot deck is more curved up) to shape of the ABS moulding.....

Once I get a skim of filler and flatt it out this will blend in nicely

Yo, Scoot......

The curvature of the bootlid (Nissan Primera) is quite pronounced.... Our Carina II is much flatter across it's width.

This means the central pillar of the wing doesn't extend down (so the ends and the middle are on the same plane) far enough = I had to create a shaped piece, araldited to the original centre pillar, making up for the shortness/gap underneath. Turned out that 19MM (3/4inch) was the gap to fill.

I had to drill 3 holes for fitting..... Two had the securing bolts/large plate washers + one hole for the brake light wire to get into the boot.

I think it went off quite nifty, like ....

Since getting this car it has run really well.... It has electronic ign and the carb has behaved itself (smooth starts and good economy) 🙂

However... I'm an inveterate tinkerer and have decided to junk the 'AutoChoke' and go with a trusty old PullOutKnob. One reason for this being how old all the various components are and a recent sense that the choke is not fully clearing/needs a booting in gears to settle things  😞

I have everything I need to hand and will post up the installation & a review of it all afterwards.

I discovered, when pulling the sun blind forward, the fabric covering had become un-glued along the front edge (the bit always in the sun).

50301852701_ee46bd6067_c.jpg
unglued

50301848586_211f5776e8_c.jpg
reglued

I bought a tube of contact adhesive at Poondland and used a thin [kiddies paint set] brush (... also from Poondies) to splodge glue along the lip and then wrapped the material back, over onto the glue.

Bit trickkie..... Working through the 'tilt up' gap, between glass and roof.

Looks very nice, refinished 😉
