Alternative map system for Auris?

Having just taken delivery of my new Auris hybrid, the one thing I do not like is the map and also the fact that I will have to pay for updates.

I realise that maps are a personal choice and suspect that many people like the one that's supplied. But is it possible to install a different system - e.g. the free, and very good, Waze?

You may laugh, but at present I've got my iPhone running Waze mounted over the Auris map display. But there must be a neater way? Install Waze instead of the existing map??

Help and advice more than welcome.

No, can't be done. Buy an Android HU if you wan't another nav software, but you can't change the one on the factory unit. It's very tightly locked system.

Whilst I can't help with alternative maps the latest software version of 6.7.0wl ( which should have been installed by your dealer before delivery )  includes free map updates see: http://blog.toyota.co.uk/toyota-touch2-with-go-receives-major-software-upgrade

Plus, it also provides real time traffic over the internet but after the first year, it will cost £22 per year, provided by TomTom IIRC or its free via TMC.

Thank you for the helpful replies.

For a non-technical person what do "IIRC" and "TMC" stand for?

IIRC - if I recall correctly

TMC = Toyota Motor Corporation.

Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese automotive manufacturer headquartered in Toyota, Aichi, Japan. Wikipedia

.... and perhaps it is a pointer to not use acronyms, especially if there is more than one interpretation.
