1.8 vvti intermittent starting problem

Hi All,

I have a 2005 Avensis 1.8 vvti which has developed an intermittent starting problem.

Car seems to misfire while trying to start, but up to now will start eventually.

This can happen when hot or cold. Car runs fine once it starts. No fault codes on OBDII reader. Recently cleaned MAF sensor, oil, oil and air filter replaced every 6k miles. Spark plugs replaced 10k ago. Also repaired broken clip on air filter housing.

Car has done 250k+ miles and timing chain a bit noisy when starting from cold.

Any ideas?

Bob

Are you sure its a misfire? Could it be a weak Battery or a weak starter motor? did you get to the bottom of this?

Hi Waqar, yes, got it sorted out. Turned out the starter was failing, got a replacement fro the scrappers and all is well again.
