EV Mode button!

Hi all. I'm having trouble what use this button is, more often than not when I press it the car just beeps at me and it does bugger all. When I do get it to go into EV Mode if you give it anything more that gentle acceleration the car beep and the light goes out. In fact I can run the car on electric just as much without using the button by adjusting the throttle to keep the EV light on while driving. So long as you don't go above the first thick line on the power meter it will stay on Battery. I think my EV Mode button is either faulty on not worth having!

I totally agree with your premise. The EV button is a complete waste of dashboard space!

I only put mine in EV when I need to move the car on the drive, eg; to turn it round or when washing it.

I let the car decide the rest.

Sounds like it is working exactly the way it should.

As the others have said, it is only useful for moving very short distances, forcing EV on the move is a complete waste of time and does absolutely nothing for fuel consumption as it can let the HV Battery go lower than optimum which then means the petrol engine will run longer

I use EV mode for getting out of underground car parks. Where you don't need speed. Or leaving for work early in the mornings.

If its like the Auris you have to press the ECO button then the EV, it will stay in electric unless you go too fast or you run out of Battery. We never use it so it is a waste of space.

EV Mode has the following limitations on the Yaris:

* Any acceleration where the power needle goes > 4 ticks will disengage EV Mode (one tick above ECO) and start the engine. Normal mode it will start the engine above 3 ticks.
* Maximum speed is 20 MPH. Above this speed it will beep and disengage.

On the Auris/Prius, it will disengage above 30 MPH.

It's not for general driving it would seem, but just maneuvering a short distance.

As it would save fuel, by preventing the cold start of the engine. Which for a short time is pointless.

Agreed, but it is easy to see why people think it can be used as a driving mode (especially on the Yaris, given the Auris and Prius have higher and arguably more practical limits).

Toyota could have educated people better, as pressing the eve button and having the ev light on the dashboard, means the car is running in electric mode. As well as you can keep a steady speed on the electric up to 50mph.

I soon realised that the ev button, was only required for certain situations.
