Can anyone recommend an OBD2 adapter to read and clear diagnostic codes for 2001 Tarago (same as Previa / Estima)?

I have ELM327 and MiniVCI usb adapters but neither of them work.  They both connect to the software ok, but the software reports cannot connect to ECU.
