Pulling to left

Hi guys,

I bought a hilux a month ago, mk5 vx.

The problem I'm having is its pulling to the left but not all the time, when it's pulling left it has power but when it's not it's low on power.  Brought it to mechanic who replaced a ball joint which was apparently held on with a spot weld.  This hasn't fixed the problem. Also when I put it in 4wd there's a grinding noise from the front left. Mechanic said there's some play in the cv joint. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
