I have an Auris 2007 Diesel. Today idling in traffic the engine died completely, twice.   Display electrics fine but ignition totally unresponsive. Started up again fine after a few minutes. Engine was warm, new Battery last year, Serviced & MOT-ed this week. Has anyone got any ideas?

Might help to know which diesel - 1.4, 2.0 or 2.2?

Moved to the Auris club.

Where was the last place that you filled up from? I know of similar issues with other cars that have had similar issues when filled up with dodgy diesel. It seems to becoming more common recently.

I'm guessing no engine management light came on?

If it keeps doing it, change the fuel filter and see if that helps.

Otherwise it might just be some air got into the fuel line or something?

Might also be worth running a tank or two of V-Power diesel, or some Redex cleaning additive in the tank just in case there's some guck building up in the fuel lines or injectors.

Thank you Mac and Cyker.

Diesel was from Tesco. No Engine light. I'll take it to the garage in the morning, apparently they changed the fuel filter last week & it's running with cataclean in it. Perhaps air or water in there tho?

Cheers!

Oh that's a point; If they changed the diesel fuel filter and didn't fill it with diesel first before installing it, it may have some air in it that can take a bit to flush out.

But does it say anywhere they actually did change the fuel filter BTW? I'd be surprised as this is not something that is changed as a regular service item and you almost always have to specifically request it.

They might be confusing it with the oil filter; The Toyota Jemca garage near me did that when I asked them to change it, assuring me it was done as part of every service, then when I painstakingly explained that, no, I wanted the FUEL filter changed, not just the OIL filter they said it as in the tank and would cost over £300. This confused me so I went away and checked, realised they were talking about the petrol version of my car, and ended up buying the part from the Toyota Hills and doing it myself with help from a friend, who mention the trick about filling it with diesel first so there'd be no air gaps, and also lubing up the seals with engine oil.

Fab! Thanks Cyker, I'll mention it to my mystified mechanic.
