2014 Yaris Hybrid smart start / entry question

My wife has just bought a 2014 Yaris Excel, it has keyless start, I assumed that it would be the same as my Prius, keyless entry too, but it seems not.

Is it possible for it to have keyless start but not entry? Was it an extra option, seems a bit mad to have the convenience of keyless start when you have to rummage in your bag/trousers to open / lock it!!

Ours is a 2104 Yaris Excel hybrid, and has a button start and not keyless entry.

Seems ok to me.  The key is in my pocket and I press the unlock button ................. it's the lower one, and I do it easily by feel  .............. and the car unlocks, then I get in, press the start button, and drive away.

Simple and I don't see the problem.  Sorry about that.

Mick.

No problem, I guess I was just surprised as I assumed it would be like my prius.

Thanks.

I think none of them had keyless entry and only the hybrids have keyless start.

We have a 2017 Yaris Excel Hybrid and it has keyless entry and start. I really like the keyless entry.

Does your profile need updating from the 2016 Yaris.

Looking at the manual, to have keyless entry you need the "entry function" added to the "smart entry & start system". I only have the smart entry & start system which is just the remote and start button.

My March 2014 Hybrid Trend has keyless entry and start.

Never need to press any buttons on the key, just walk up to any of the sensor areas and pull the door handles to unlock and open.

It's not quite as simple as "pull the door handles". If you are too quick, the physical sensors inside the door handle can sometimes not register quick enough and you will pull against a locked door! I would say that "place hand inside door handle (wait for sound of the locks unlocking) then pull the handle" would be a more accurate way of describing it. It really isn't fast enough...

So it must have been a paid optional extra then?

Yes, it is/was. Part of an add-on package usually.

The Yaris had spec level changes from December 2013 and then a facelift and further spec changes from July 2014.

December 2013, spec levels changed from T2, T3, T4, TR, SR and T-spirit, to Active, Icon, Icon Plus and Trend.

The July facelift dropped the Trend, and brought in the Sport and Excel.

On another topic, just how non user friendly is the DAB software? I cant figure it out, what's an ensemble? The system only shows 5 stations, and I cant seem to get it to show more.
