Toyota auris 2.0 d4d cold starting problems

Hi new to this and not sure if this is the right place.

My auris is a right pig to start when the weather is cold. I have read about the scv upgrade and the ecu update. I was just wondering if I was to replace the scv with like for like rather than the upgrade I then would not need to go to the main dealer to get the ecu update. Surely if the car worked fine for ten years with the original scv would a new one not perform the same. Thanks
