That looks really nice Bob, and I like the wheels, lovely drive way also lol.

Today I had my rear breaks cleaned and the handbrake adjusted, along with the tracking being done, needless to say after a 13 hr day at work, the drive home was rather nice.

So it's been a while since I last posted, and that's down to me being busy at work, which is great, as it's all car money parts.
The Carina had it's MOT today and passed with only a couple of advisory, which I will get done asap.
I did pick up a couple of little bits the other day, a couple of custom sun strips and an ISO cable for the head unit.

So after another 10 1/2 hour day I set about fitting the front one, and this is a custom idea of my own.
Basically the BTCC cars back in 94 had the word Carina E in the window, but only the E used the correct font from the sales brochure used by Toyota. Having spoken with people within the original team, it was a simple system back then, and they didn't have the correct font to do the actual letters used, so I had one custom made.

Well as I only did an 8 hour day today, I managed to come home and fit my rear window sticker.

I still have a HUGE list of jobs to do, mainly suspension, brakes and wheel.

  • 2 weeks later...

So a couple of little updates today for you.

I've had a few stickers designed for the roof of my car, to mimic the 1994 Castrol B.T.C.C sponsored car Julian Bailey raced, whilst I stood track side.
This is the roof sticker I had done, I provided the template and design, and the specialist tweaked it for me. As some of you may have spotted, there is a tiny mistake, and the specialist is providing me with the correctly coloured part.

The roof stickers were eventually put on after work one afternoon, after which it promptly rained ( the first time in months ).

I'm not sure why, but the pictures make it look off line, but it's not, which is odd.

I have one more which is in the post at the moment, and that is a rather large Castrol logo that goes towards the rear of the roof.

I'm also in talks with José Meireles about a front splitter, and although not true to the 94 spec car, I kind of like it.

I know what you mean, and it's why I keep changing my mind. I think I will do wheels and suspension next, and see how I feel from there.

I think stage one of my project will be to make a capable road car, something that handles well and stops better.

Terrific work, Paul....

....How you do that with one hand on your phone and the other doing the work is beyond me!!! 😮

Great job with the videos, they could help a lot of folk on here:thumbup1:.  To be honest, I'm not that keen on the BTCC look but then, I'm a bit older than you, so prefer the classic lines of Bob's ( @wedgehog ) car but you never know...I could be swayed by the end result.  I'm really looking forward to see just what your car looks like with alloys on it, so....keep up the good work, Buddy...You're doing great! :yahoo:

At the end of the day, it's your car and you can be VERY proud of what you've done to it.

Keep going and keep us informed, I'm enjoying your thread.

Thanks a lot and all the best.

Thank you for your kind words.

I'm still unsure on the stickers at the moment myself, and once my wheels and suspension have been fitted to the car, I may prefer the cleaner look, but time will tell.

I'm glad people are liking the YouTube shows, I kind of thought it would be better for everyone to watch what I do, although it's all a learning curve, and I only have a rather old mobile phone lol. But again thanks, and yes I will keep everyone updated with my car.

GR8 wheels m8 👍

Thing with 'spindlies' (skinny spokes) is it exposes all your gubbinns... We need to see some stainless hoses and hi-heat on the calipers [or billet! 😱] + detailed suspension/no grot.

I completely agree with you, I'm in talks with a few company's, 1 to do the discs and calipers, but as I want rear discs as well, I'm looking at changing the rear hubs, and another that makes and sells linkage arms. Braided hoses are a given, but I've got a few things to think about, i.e. if I change the calipers etc, will up rated oem ones fit. Thanks for the positive comments though, and the cars slowly getting there.

This photo was taken before the wheels were change.

So I went from this.. to this.. oddly you can actually feel the tyre has a squarer profile, and a lot more grip 😄 (maybe a little more noise lol)

Here we are fitted to the car, and I think it's an improvement, and yes the car needs lowering, but that will be happening soon 😄

I do still intend on having a second set of wheels, but will push that back to the winter, as I want to start doing some of the other jobs first.

The tyres are 215 x 17, but actually look small from the rear.

I imagine the 'shouldered' old tyre is off the front? Get your alignment 'laser lined' or you will crock out these new ones - being a bigger footprint.

My OZ 15" + tyres are exactly factory rolling dia... Looking a tad "needs lowering m8!" but I'm happy to keep it as it is 😋

That's a very nice looking car, I remember going to see Andy Rouse racing them back in the days,  and agreed on the alignment.

My list of jobs to do is getting longer each week, not shorter lol.
