Broken MMT, Actuator faulty and Clutch all need changing

My car needs a new MMT computer and a clutch and a replacement for the faulty actuator.

What's the most economical way to get this done, since none of the parts are covered in my 3rd party warranty?

Is actuator found in the door.?

I believe the actuator is part of the electronic gear shift mechanism.

Think the only sure way of getting an MMT repaired and working satisfactorily, is via a Toyota dealer or specialist.

Yeah, sadly you can only get the parts new from Toyota, and while some other garages may be able to fit them, they won't be able to do all the computery and recalibratory wotsits to make it all work properly once they're in...

It may be cheaper to get a new car at this point...

I don't know how long they will last, especially if I spend a fortune getting them installed then who but Toyota can carry out the computer learning process. I think I will first go back to the dealer with my  Consumer Rights Act 2015 claim for faulty goods.

Under the Consumer Rights Act, all products must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.  

The rules also include digital content in this definition. So all products - whether physical or digital - must meet the following standards:  

  • Satisfactory quality Goods shouldn't be faulty or damaged when you receive them. You should ask yourself what a reasonable person would consider satisfactory for the goods in question. For example, bargain-bucket products won’t be held to as high standards as luxury goods.
  • Fit for purpose The goods should be fit for the purpose they are supplied for, as well as any specific purpose you made known to the retailer before you agreed to buy the goods.
  • As described The goods supplied must match any description given to you, or any models or samples shown to you at the time of purchase.

Get a refund, repair or replacement

22 Dec 2017 but first breakdown was 15 Feb 2018 from a Neasden dealer.

Yes I had contacted the Citizens advice bureau so I can put the pressure on the dealer for a fix or replacement, otherwise a refund minus reasonable wear and tear deduction.

Be aware that 'fit for purpose'  only really applies if you mentioned that you were going to use the item for a specific purpose, and the retailer stated that the item was suitable for that usage. For example, if you stated the car was needed to tow a specific weight trailer.

OK thanks.

The dealer has had my car for over a week now, and he phoned me on Saturday 14th to say that it has been back to Toyota twice with the result that the gearbox oil has been changed and the actuator cleaned.  That was the best description of work carried out by Toyota, also the computer bit was done. I will probably be picking up the car this week and the dealer has suggested that I increase the warranty to level5 where electrical/electronic parts will be covered, not sure if that will work since I had already been refused a warranty repair?

Just an update, my car is running fine since the dealer had to get it checked and fixed  by Toyota (edgware road).

Ray Auto's got Toyota to change the transmission fluid and clean the actuator.

Thanks to all who gave me advice.
