ABS Sensors

This is my first post here. Hope someone can help me. I Have a 97 Carina 1800 CD

I was pulling out the drive the other morning when ABS light came on. I believe it is a sensor gone, don't have a code reader, but want to know the easiest way to determine which sensor is faulty. If I do diagnostic shortcut do I put T1 E1 and pull the pin at bottom of plug.? Does that mean I will be in the abs diagnostic side?

Toyota don't stock sensors for this car now, I can get generic one that will fit Toyota but they list as left and right. The only difference I can see in the diagrams are the cable clip arrangements and the back is shorter cables. Can I buy just 1 sensor and use it to identify the fault.

Does anyone know of any way to test with an ohms multimeter as the cost of the sensors range from £10 to £85 with the average around £25. Can't see much difference between the cheapest and the most expensive other than brand name!

I like to do as much on my car myself as I can, but sometimes I just need a helping hand from those with more experience.

Many thanks in advance. Maurice

Do you know if the parts are common (Toyota part no.) to another T car made at the same time?

If so, likely the same fault finding tricks/ask on model specific forums... Long shot, I know

Hi,

Seems your post also shows up in the Corolla forum.

You really next a code read that can do ABS errors,  a lot of the cheaper reads do not.

These pics from a Corolla might give you something to work with.
