1978 toyota hiace - losing power

Hi guys, recently I just bought a 1978 hiace camper van. The  RH32RV JRQ model with an 18rc engine. Yesterday i was lucky enough to get it roadworthy but within an hour of driving it, it started losing power. After pulling over and waiting awhile i restarted the van and drove for 5 minutes only to have the same thing happen to me, but this time the engine stalled and cut out. I checked the fuel filter and replaced it but only to have the same thing happen to me after 5 minutes of driving it. If anyone has any suggestions on what could be the cause feel free to comment.

You might be losing the valve clearance gap possibly when hot due to expansion causing the valves to not fully close, . check gaps when engine fully hot. might be worth changing ignition coil  as well as there relatively cheap as these can be intermittent on old hiaces

hey, did you sort out the problem?

I've been having the same issues on my toyota hiace 1974 camper.  I'm managing the issue with having the choke out an inch all the time, but this isn't ideal!

Would love to get to the bottom of it!

Could be oil pressure, I had the same issue with a corolla.

Needed a new oil pump and all was good fortunately. Didn't do any further damage to the engine.

Lovely old bus by the way, I'm on the lookout for one.
