2006 Rav4 Tailgate door rattle

My daughters tailgate rattles when driving, and simply appears to be the latching mechanism not holding it in tight against the door seal, as there is some play on it. I've tried adjusting the catch on the frame but the countersunk bolts seem to hold it in the same position and there is little or no adjustment on it.

Is this a common problem, cant find anything on the search option

Thanks anyone

It’s unlikely to be door adjustment. There are three possibilities:

The bumpstop on the door edge is missing - very common.

The plastic skin over the bottom section of the door is vibrating against the metal of the door - use a piece of self adhesive foam to prevent this.

Ensure that the spare wheel cover, if fitted, is positioned with the location tabs at the top in the correct position and the clasp at the bottom locked properly - otherwise the cover will vibrate against the plastic backplate.

If you get another bump stop rubber... stick it back in with a little glue else it will escape again 🙂
