Noise when accelerating

Hi there. I have a 2008 t180 manual with 108000 miles on it.

Not long since I bought it so not used to it yet, but being getting a noise like tutbo whine or something like that. It happens when accelerating up to about 50mph and disappears when you take your foot off the gas. Clutch doesn’t seem to be slipping.

Many ideas?

I have a 2011 1.6 valvematic with same problem, only done 58,000.

Only had the car 2 months, driving me mad on the motorway!

Please help us! lol😊

Just a thought... but when I hear a noise like that on a car I check for any loose or cracked air pipes... escaping air or a vacuumed space with a leak can play a whiny type tune; esp. if to do with the inlet manifold that changes pressure when accelerating or on the over-run!  Do a visual inspection for any cracks and tighten any hose clips, or reposition those stupid spring pipe clips if those are what you have.  Of course, it could be a turbo whine... esp. if the case is leaking 🙂

I know this is a year old thread but I have exactly the same sound, same year and same mileage as OP. It's a 2.0 VVTI, 152 hp, manual, no turbo. At first it was on acceleration only and disappered after taking your foot off the gas. It recently started to be audiable after releasing the gas pedal too, sounds like engine braking, only louder.

@ Fmaclennan and Alcotech - how did it turn out for you a year later? Did you manage to find the source of the sound?
