Auris 2010 12v Query

As above I have the mark 1 auris hsd, lately it has been tempremental going to ready mode which I understand is the 12v on its way out. Being in the UK and our warm spot of weather is a distant memory I thought I’d prepare myself for the winter and replace the Battery before i find myself stranded.

Anyhow I enquiried with Toyota who advised me approx £97 for an optima Battery but couldn’t advise me it’s capacity! And this is without warranty too. I can also source a Lion 45aH agm Battery from a friend who works at eurocarparts for £120 which would come with 3 years warranty but I cannot find any positive information on the lion branded agm batteries. Link here: https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Toyota_Auris+Hybrid_1.8_2010/p/car-parts/car-electrics-and-car-lighting/electrical/car-battery/?444770091&1&da4a11ed764da0fcddddc68be4f1c6abd7da2e70&000020

The original is a Yuasa S46B24R but does not state the capacity.

Has anyone replaced one in their Auris 1st gen HSD? Or can anyone advise which one to get?

Many Thanks

Not a cheap battery https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/yuasa/hj-s46b24r/ 46Ah/CCA 310A

Btw Toyota parts fitted by a toyota dealer afaik have a minimum warranty of a year (consumables excepted) https://www.toyota.co.uk/owners/parts-accessories/parts

Thanks but that is quite extortionate. Also the posts are the other way round. I’m tempted to go for the lion cos of the 3 year warranty. Can’t believe Toyota are only supplying optima batteries otherwise I would have went for the Yuasa if it was at that price. 😔

You are paying for what you are getting.

Afaik Toyota dealers normally offer the choice of 2 levels of part - the genuine oem part & a cheaper part often under an "Optifit" brand

I did ask for the oem part and the sales ast said they only had the one listed.

Any opinions on the Optima?

Don't know Optima (sure not Optifit?) - try asking Parts-King on here what his dealership would supply (he normally does a small discount for forum members).

Yes sorry it’s optifit. What’s the difference?

Also on that link it states 3 year warranty but the dealer I rang said no warranty??

Usually Toyota parts and accessories carry at least a 12 month warranty, and I would imagine the Battery warranty is similar to batteries from other sources.

Optifit is Toyota's "generic quality" parts brand (probably doing it a dis-service). Optima is another company entirely.

It can't have no warranty - at the very least you would be covered by consumer law within the EU which includes things like satisfactory quality, fitness for purpose & last for a reasonable length of time. If it's over £100 pay for even part of that on a credit card & you get extra protection through Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.

Earlier this year I changed the wifes 12v in her Hybrid 2010 Auris and went to Tanya in Abergele North Wales (they do postal) and the Optima (yes Optima) was £130 inc VAT, fitting was easy and the posts are the correct way, and even the vent pipe was just a switch and caused no problem. 12 month warranty. Helpful service from Tanya, I collected but they don't do fitting and the garage across from them declined to do it because it was an Hybrid !  It was a doddle to fit - just cover the terminals when you take off the old Battery (don't want shortages which is what the garage was worried about)

https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/optima/             Its on page 2 about half way down, yellow top, YTS 2.7J (Japenese terminals-JAP posts-red front left)

See forum item below - its the day I bought the Battery and fitted it.

but why would you if the Toyota dealer part is cheaper & fitted free?

Ive confirmed with my local dealer warranty is in fact 3 years. No idea about capacity just that it’s an optifit. At £97 with 3 year warranty I’m happy with that.

Ill be getting it from my dealer this weekend and I’ll also be getting the AA solar car charger to trickle charge the Battery when it’s parked to keep Battery at optimum.

Interestingly when you go to https://www.toyota.co.uk/owners/service-mot-maintenance/repairs it says £120 for the Battery for an Auris petrol (£130 diesel).

I’ve attached images of the Battery if anyone is interested. I’m abit sceptical about the notches at the top but I guess for under £100 with 3 year warranty it’ll suffice.
