Longer pedals

My daughter has just passed her test and bought herself an Aygo Black vvt-1 2010. The problem is she is quite short and as a result has the seat as far forward as it goes. This means the bottom of the steering wheel is touching her tummy which apart from making steering a little difficult, I think it dangerous from an airbag deployment point of view. She knows about pedal extenders but doesn't want those. I was thinking of buying a set of pedals from a breakers and having them modified. Is this possible? what does the community think?

Pedals are mostly plastic nowadays,  however with a few well plad holes, and extenders hidden on the inside of the car, i think it's quite possible to do what you want.

Problem is how ergonomic it will be. How about just ading a spacer on top of the original pedals, let's say some block of plastic painted black so it's not conspicuous and bolting pedal on top of that?

Plastic could be easily ground if you with to adjust the angle of the covers to be more ergonomic to press.

I'm not sure if you'd be altering the fulcrum point? A longer pedal may equate to lead to less movement at the pivot? It's only a guess, but perhaps something you should consider. If I were you I'd visit or telephone your local Toytota dealer and ask their opinion. It could be that they have come across this issue before they could actually supply some longer pedals?

You should pop along to a specialist Motability centre, somebody who deals with specialist adaptions. They will be able to advise of what is possible. I would not entertain doing anything DIY as you will have serious insurance issues if you carry out an unsafe DIY job if it went horribly wrong, take advice from some experts

I'm only small ...but I find if I adjust the seat height that makes a big difference

She just needs to play around with different seat  positions ..... I sit high but my sister is the same height as me and she has the seat really low ....

I still sit really close but no close enough to have a air bag issue ...

Hi guys

just my 5 cents here

but i dont think one can adjust the seats on a 2010 model can they?

i have a 2008 and the seats go forward n back only.

otherwise i definitely agree with parts king and get it done properly by a mobility specialist which im almost certain they can do.

best of luck.

Personally, if she finds the Aygo difficult to drive and instead of having it adapted (and facing the task of 'unadapting' it when it comes to being sold) she might be better off buying the model of car in which she passed her test? At least she'd know she could comfortably drive the thing.

100% agree. They will know all the consequences of possible injury etc and it’s better to start off with the correct adaptations rather than risk injury later on.
