Tailgate wont open

Hi all

I have an 07 avensis estate and the handle/switch to open the boot/tailgate has stopped working. For a while it worked intermittently, now nothing at all.

Is there a way to check whether it's a fuse, the handle/switch or the actuator before I start replacing them? If not I am thinking I'll just start replacing them in that order (cheapest to most expensive). Although the fact it worked intermittently maybe points to the actuator?

Can anyone tell me where the fuse is and which one? Any tips on this much appreciated. I have searched around the forums and online but haven't found any specific answers other than a few people replacing the switch.

Also, apologies for what may be a daft question, but do I need to disconnect the power i.e. at the Battery before replacing these parts?

Many thanks

jb

I bet that the wire is broken inside the rubber protector between tailgate and the body!!!

I'll have a look at that! Been real busy with work so still not fixed but hopefully will find out this weekend. Thanks!

I know it's been a while, but I thought I'd mention in case anyone has a similar issue, that I solved this by replacing the release switch (the bit you press down to open the boot/ tailgate). I saved a bunch of money by digging the actual switch out of the component, and just replacing that, rather than the entire Toyota part with the casing, wiring etc.

Nice, I think mine might be on the blink, feels like I have to push it & slightly push it again to open, was it easy enough to source a suitable switch ?

I pulled a switch apart then reassembled it and it worked fine that was on a 2014 yaris.

At the time replacment micro switches were very expensive.
