DISCONNECT THE Battery 1ST

and wait for 20 minutes before starting to disconnect any cables

this is very important.

there will either be 2 torx screws 1 either side of the steering wheel

or 3 holes (@ 3o'clock, 1/2 past & 9 o'clock positions) for releasing the air bag

using a pin / drill bit insert pin / drill into the hole and keep pressing to release the air bag

when pressing give the airbag a gentle pull to help release it.

to re fit just give it a firm press or maybe a gentle tap

then reconnect the Battery.

Thanks got that sorted. Theres a central swival bit with white tapes on it. Does it come out seperately or does that whole unit come out as one.

the swivel part is a clock spring its flat cable that lets you rotate the steering wheel and still have all your

steering wheel functions working ,if you do have to remove this cable i think its held in with 4 screws

luckily i haven't had to replace the stalks you need to change so i haven't ventured too faer into the

steering wheel.

Hi guys

i am trying to remove the airbag from my 2014 Auris. It has 3 holes. I can unlock the bottom part of the airbag (via the bottom hole) but the other two just press against plastic and it doesn’t comes out.

should I just press it harder? Or does it need to be pressing any spring or so?

thanks

all three holes give access to the three spring clips that hold the airbag in place

My steering wheel is different, please see picture.

It has 3 holes, but only the one on the bottom unlocks the airbag. The other two seem to be pushing (hard) plastic...

Thanks again!

This link might help, my post is dated December 2, 2016.  I have taken these airbags off about 5 times.  In my experience these clips take a surprising amount of effort to get them to release.

I know exactly what you mean about pushing plastic. The metal clip lies between two plastic pieces.

An airbag on a VW was very easy by comparison!

Thanks Greg.

I’ve managed to do it!

For future users with the same problem, the order of the holes is relevant. I’ve started by the one on the left (the hardest to see), then the bottom one (the easiest to unlock) and finally the one on the right (the easiest to see as we can see through the large opening of the cruise control switch).
