Hi all, following my post a few days ago, I'm pre-empting a request for feedback regards buying a new or recon Turbo unit as the garage have said the turbo shaft siezed up. Assuming its not caused any engine damage (will know tomorrow) I need to buy a Turbo unit

2003 Rav 4 2.0 D4D manual

Apart from Eurocarparts offering an OE equiv for £1430! Does anyone have any decent sources for reputable Turbos??
I see them on eBay for £130 from China, surely these are TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!?!?!
Anyone had theirs refurbed at all by a proper firm (exchange unit) There's someone on eBay for £238 refurbished, so guessing they refurb genuine units or something??

Any contacts would be greatly appreciated

Toyota offer refurb Turbo's on an exchange basis and they are cheaper than Eurocarparts,

Turbotechnics are reputable https://www.turbotechnics.com/ before Toyota started their own recon programme the Toyota extended warranty company used Turbotechnics to diagnose and replace Turbos .

Some cheap Chinese turbos are ok but others are awfull - problem is that you won’t always know until premature failure. Low cost reconditioned units will often be a new rotating cartridge bolted into the old casing - can be dubious especially if the origin of the cartridge is unknown. You won’t go wrong with Turbotechnics, and Turboactive, in Teesside, are also excellent with a good warranty. If in any doubt, fit a new oil feed line when fitting a new turbo. Turbotechnics can supply a suitable stainless steel braided flexible with the correct end connections.
