I thought that they might use the saloon (stiffer shell) but I guess they decided that either the improved "dartiness" 😝 of the shorter wheelbase or the marketing advantage of using the hatchback (which I presume they think will vastly outsell the saloon) was better.

of course they could have done a Subaru/Volvo & run the TS ... 😍

They could of done but I think over the next few years the rules are going to say they have to bring in some kind of Hybrid Tec and who's in front with this in the world of the Manufacturers on road cars Toyota 👍

afaik the hatch, sedan & TS will all be available in hybrid form so that shouldn't come into it.

Hybrid powertrains are mandatory for the series from start of 2022 season.

tbh I suspect that we will see a controlled/standardised BTCC powertrain (or parts thereof) offered as currently to keep development costs down for teams.
