exhaust gases inside car

I've noticed a persistent smell of  (diesel) exhaust in car during journeys.

It has had a health check from Toyota and they found no leak from the exhaust system.

They also found: "Rubber Pipe Between Turbo Pipe Expanded and Split".

Could that be the cause of the problem?

Can someone tell me the function of this pipe and what it is called?

I'd have thought that exhaust gases would be too hot for a rubber pipe, so is it carrying inlet air? - and if so, can that really cause an exhaust leak?
