TF oil temperature hi ... many Error messages

Hi, I've got a Rav4 2.2 d-4d xt3 model - 2006.

Recently got a dashboard warning - TF oil temperature high, and then the error messages just went berserk!!

The dashboard displayed the following messages and kept cycling through them:

Check brake system
Check ABS system
Check 4wd system

eventually told me 2WD only

Anyone had anything similar, and what was the solution please ? - I've read somewhere that it might be due to the wheel bearing magnetic sensor but which wheel? I've done low mileage (60K) and never driven it in 4WD.

Doing my nut in that this is going to be mega expensive and therefore not economical to fix a 12 year old car!

Help!

First thing to check is that the transfer oil level is correct.

DIY, but you need to raise the car (use axle stands, don't trust a jack) and do it from below.  Remove the filler plug and check the level is up to the bottom of the hole.  If it isn't, look for signs of a leak.
