Automatic Headlight (High Beam) Feature

I have a 2017 Yaris Icon Tech Hybrid.

The automatic headlight (high beam) feature has worked in the past but when returning home after a meal out at a very remote Inn the other evening, the high beam didn't come on when I expected it to i.e. going along a country lane in pitch darkness with no other cars in sight. The auto headlight warning light was illuminated on the dash.

The only explanation I can think of is that I may not have been going fast enough for the main beam to come on. It was a freezing cold night with icy patches so I was taking it carefully but I must have been going about 30mph or thereabouts.

Is there a speed below which the high beam doesn't trigger like the the Lane Departure warning which is inactive below 32mph???

According to the manual it only works above approximately 25 mph - which is probably an indicated 30 mph.

Interesting to know as I hadn't picked up on that previously.

Thanks. When you say ‘the manual’, is that the manual for your car? I couldn’t find anything in the Yaris handbook

Would probably be covered in the full electronic owners manual, rather than the abbreviated version supplied with new cars.  May be downloaded from https://www.toyota.co.uk/tme#/my-toyota/eManual

Great - downloaded the manual and found the answer I was looking for. Many thanks

Sorry, should have added that this is from the Yaris manual. While I have a RAV4 my wife has recently bought a Yaris with the Safety Sense bits and I have the electronic versions for both cars - they are similar but different as you might expect !. She really enjoys being able to have the digital speedo displayed in the 'information' panel between the rev counter and the analogue speedometer.
