Creaking suspension issue

I have a 2014 Auris Sporting Tourer which has a creaking suspension issue. It creaks both on the nearside and offside when a the car's corners are under load, so for example going up or down multi-storey car parks and sometimes going around roundabouts

Toyota have checked the car three times now and say there is nothing wrong with the suspension but as the video below shows, there is an issue. Sadly the technician who said he watched the video yesterday wasn't the technician who worked on my car! I actually doubt they watched the video as stats show no views either.

Anyone have any ideas at all?

Thanks very much.

Hi, I have two Auris Hybrid first gen one at 90k and other at 55k both does the same creaking sometimes. Suspension checked many times and found nothing that can point a faulty part or any wear that needs attention. I suspect top mounts or stabiliser bar bushes does it but until I get excessive play on either of them I am not going to change them, actually I get that creaking only under loads and not all the time and never bother me. If starts creaking all the time than will investigate further. There may be some salt and dirt around those rubber parts that cause creaking. Washing under the car or driving on a motorway in heavy spring rain maight get those parts cleaned and stop annoying noises.

Regards

i had something like this years ago

i slackened off the lower suspension arm bolts and silicon sprayed

in the gap i done this all round and also on the anti roll bar bushes

nothing was worn just dry this stopped the creaking for me,

it was really annoying as everyday i had to go over a set of speed bumps

to get to work and listen to the creaking sound daily.

I did same just spray all the bushes you can find and the bush on top of shock when you lift bonnet with silicone grease sorted mine

As mentioned in the link provided by Gerg that I have a similar sound in my car. I have not done anything about it so far and the sound has not got worse in the time that I have owned the car. Therfore I have ignored it.

Thanks very much for your advice.

A Bosch service centre said they thought it was the stabiliser bushes. It is random. Sometimes the noise is there and then other times you hear nothing!

Thanks all again.

I get this creak creak creak noise when braking. Toyota garage suggested a bearing, replaced bearing noise still there. A mechanic suggested wishbone bushes, replaced wishbone, front discs and pads. So far over £400 pounds in parts and the noise is still there.

Will try the silicone treatment but any other advice is welcome.

Just as an update:-    I was working on another 13 plate Auris with the suspension creak.  It was worse than the first one and was particularly prone to creaking whilst braking over bumps, even light braking caused it.  No work had been carried out to cure this beforehand. The car had done 54,000 miles.

I sprayed silicone oil over the suspension bushes located at the front of the suspension lower arms, one on each side of the car.  This improved the situation but definitely did not stop it completely.  A week or so later, I applied more spray to the front bushes, but the noise persisted.

A week or more later I sprayed the silicone oil over the rearmost bushes on the front lower arms (these ones are a much more accessible rubber disc, lying horizontally).  This has stopped the noise, I have not heard it at all in the last two weeks.

I have not applied any oils or greases to the anti-roll bar rubbers or the rubber strut top-mounts.

HTH.

A bit late to this conversation I know, but I just found it because I've got the exact same problem with my 2015 TS and wondered if anyone else had encountered it. So now I know I'm not alone! @abradders34 Good work with the video - that demonstrates it nicely. In my case I tried describing the problem to my dealership (probably not very well) and they did try some extra lubrication when they had it in for service but it made no difference. As always seems to happen, they reckon they couldn't replicate the noise, but when I drove off, I got a massive creak just as I was turning out of the forecourt. So the problem definitely isn't any better, and if anything I think it might be getting worse - or maybe I'm just more tuned into it now... especially as the warranty's up next year! 😨

@Gerg, thanks for your post - I'm not sure exactly what it was the dealership had a go at last time, but maybe if I take it back in I can give them some pointers based on your experience.

I have the same problem with my 2014 Auris. Got it to the Toyota Service and they said nothing seems wrong, they couldn't replicate the problem.

@Gerg some months has passed, did the creaking dissapear?

Yes, this has stopped the noise, but I have a different suspension noise on one of the cars the r/h side only.  This only happens on sharp bumps at faster speeds with no braking.

I ended up using a silicone oil spray can with the regular supplied tube put into a pair of plastic drinking straws (the ones that can be angled are good).  The straws were joined together by stretching the end of one by pushing over the tapered end of pair of long-nose pliers, and pushed together.  I used some rubber pipe (that I already had) to join the spray applicator to my straws, you could use some PTFE tape perhaps?

This arrangement makes getting the oil into the suspension a lot easier - the car does not need to be jacked up, just on full steering lock.

Hi, I have same problems sometimes on two Auris hybrids, and I can confirm that it’s the lower suspension arm bushes, the horizontal bush that seats horizontally, with the time they gets dirt and dust between two rubber peaces and while suspension travel up and down there is rubber that rubs and create that creaking noises. Some silicone spray can solve the issue or wash it, just clean either way you like but remember, never use wd-40 or any petroleum based lubricant because you are risking to damage the rubber. Sometimes driving on motorways in heavy rain helps a lot, it’s actually how I solved my issues.

I followed @TonyHSD instructions and the creaking noises had stopped. A lot of dirt was stucked there. It's a really easy job since the lower suspension arm is easy accessible, everyone can do it. I've used WD40 Water Resistant Silicone Lubricant: https://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-40-Specialist-44217-Lasting-Grease/dp/B00KMRDEMW/

To access the right suspension arm, you have to turn the wheel max to the left.

To access the left suspension arm, you have to turn the wheel max to the right.

I have attached a picture where you should lubricate. Hope it helps.

Got the same vibration related/rattling noise in the cabin as you 25-31 sec.

It drives me crazy, trying to locate it since months. I torn the whole console with lights/ alarm from the roof liner. Seems like nothing loose there.

Hi, your bushes looks way worse than mine that are over 150k and 10 years, do you drive mainly in towns and on streets with a lot of speed bumps? I am including pictures where to spray some wd-40 silicon spray, that will help with the creaking noises while driving over bumps.

Yup, 85k from what 50% is London over speed bumps. Roads here are like 3rd world country.

I know and I agree. London is one of the worst places to drive a car in whole Europe. Poor roads and nasty drivers and many speed bumps plus traffic islands and speed calming objects that does nothing but harm to your car, the idiots drivers fly over them. , but it is how it is. You can still drive like that and spray some silicone to stop the noise. Next mot they may advise you those are ready for change but if no excessive play they may not bother, I am probably at that stage too. The salt from the winter greeting is the biggest enemy to car body and suspension btw. 👍

If your suspension is making a squeaking or creaking noise when you go around corners, then this could point towards worn ball joints. ... There are a number of signs that a ball joint is damaged. As well as creaky cornering, you may also hear a knocking sound when going over bumps.
