Squeaky gear stick advice

Hi

Ive been getting intermittent squeaking from my gear stick when shifting from 3-4/4-3 . Happens both when the car is moving and when it’s switched off. Happened  probs 3 times in past few months.  Goes away on its own/ after I furiously work the gearbox back and forth for a  few mins, doesn’t come back for a few weeks.

Any ideas what this could be?

I had a squeak, think it was my Yaris. I lifted up the rubber gearstick cover, dropped a few drops off oil and worked it around.
