MP3/USB query

Hi,

I have a USB drive that currently has approximately 460 mp3 files stored on it - I prefer to hear a random selection, so these are all stored in the root directory of the drive.

My Auris however thinks there are over 600 files on the drive and there seems to be no rhyme/reason as to which files it thinks are there twice.

I have  tried reformatting the drive and copying the files across again, but no change.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I can sort this so that my car doesn't think there are more tracks on the drive than there really are?

Thanks

I have over 500 tracks on an 8Gb USB stick but my Touch 2 system thinks there are only 500 and it doesn't vary in this.  My tracks are stored in "album" folders and, like you, I play them in random order.

How did you format your USB stick?  I use FAT32.

Hi

My usb drive is also fat32 formatted.  It is a 64gb drive - not sure if that's part of the issue.

Will have a dig around and see if I can find another drive to play with.

Could be, I had problems using a Toshiba 16Gb stick - it would stop playing and disappear from the "Media" screen. A car stop/start would get it playing again.

I also think this is the issue, as I'm sure the max you can connect is 8GB.

You can connect more but the system definitely struggles to index etc.

Thanks guys,

Have now obtained an 8gb drive and that seems to be working ok so far.

You can just resize the drive to be 8gb or less.

You use the disk management tool that's shipped by default with windows, and just shrink the volume to be under 8GB.

If the shrink option is grayed out, then you can try formatting it as NTFS, and then set the value to be under 8GB

Here's a quick how to video on the topic

Thanks Dean.  I'd never thought of partitioning a USB stick!

I'm running a 32gb USB stick in my Auris and don't have any trouble at all.   Mine is formatted as FAT32 but I do have my files in folders by artist

Might be related to indexing, as mentioned above, if you have a lot of smaller folders, that the car copes fine.
