T25 manual gearbox wrong drain hole

Hello everyone,

I have a 2005 T25 2.2 D-CAT Avensis with 6 speed manual. So far this is the best car ever...

Yesterday I changed the transmission fluid. At first I unscrewed the wrong plug (shown on the picture). Inside the hole was some sort of spring loaded ball valve assembly which fell into my used oil catch pan. Hardly any fluid had leaked from the hole. Does anyone know what this hole is this used for? Also not sure about the correct orientation of the assembly - I returned it with metal spring pointing up and ball facing the plug...

Its for gear detent.  Ball would go in first, then spring, then plug.

I've refitted it the correct way. Thanks a lot.

Good to know where gear dent is, the first check for gearbox problems. Your refill nut looks rusty like mine above it. I only did a partial change as it can take some time to fill up.

It can certainly take some time to fill... especially if you are using a syringe like i did...

I used a large syringe too, but I used a funnel to add the oil to the syringe, than push gently. Used Millers TRX Semi Synthetic 75w90 - 5 Litre.

I used Shell Spirax S4 G 75W-90 GL-4 Synthetic. It took about 2.5 litres.
After the oil change it seems to go a lot smoother shifting from 1st to 2nd gear... or maybe it's on account of warmer weather...
