Instrument cluster on dash board - adjust level of brightness.

2015 T3 VVT-1CVT .  Type XW3(A) - variant ZVW30(H)

Problem:  During daylight driving the LED's in the instrument cluster are at the lowest level of brightness, nearly greyed out in bright sunlight. This appears to be a default setting.

How do I get the brightness level button to work during daylight driving?

I've tried to 1. In daylight, turn on lights, then press the brightness button to change  the level of brightness. No change to level of brightness.

2.  Same as above but in a darkened garage the brightness level button works.

3. In heavy overcast, near dark weather, the brightness in the cluster seems to auto-change , but the level button works.

Extract from the full owners manual:

When the tail light is on, the brightness of the instrument cluster lights can be adjusted. (For vehicles with the automatic light control system, the lights can be adjusted when the tail light is on and the surrounding area is dark.)

Type A - The brightness will change by 3 steps each time the button is pressed. The reduced brightness can be canceled by pressing and holding the button. To turn on this function, press the button again.

Type B - The brightness will change by 4 steps each time the button is pressed.

Many thanks for the the above extract.  I've got a manual too.

I've got a Type B version.  The instructions in the above extract don't work for my Prius.

I repeat: In daylight, with lights on, the adjuster button doesn't work.

Try covering the sensor on the dash or try turning the auto dimming off in the menus.

Well done that man Keith.  Covering the sensor on the dash, (which I originally thought was a fixing stud),  did the trick.
