Rear Parking Sensor LCD Display

The display (08 Avensis) is quite dim and is invisible in all but very dim conditions. Is there any way to brighten up the display so that is usable in sunlight?.

Press what looks like a trip counter reset stalk on the right of the display. It is beside the clock/info display LCD.

Hi

Thanks for that-I now know how to turn up the dash display brightness but unfortunately this does not turn up the LCD dissplay.

I hadn't noticed until after I posted that you had mentioned specifically the parking sensor display. I don't have that system in my car, but I thought it was worth a try, so I left the post as is. If it is the contrast of the LCD elements on the display that are too dim, then there might be a trim pot to adjust the contrast on the inside of the display module. Unfortunately, this is by no means a certainty, and involves pulling the dashboard display apart. Other cars I have had did have a software controlled contrast, but I don't know of one on the Avensis.

Hi Paul thanks for that. I will have a look at the display unit. This is just a small 2.5"x 0.75"x 1" unit stuck to the dash just to the rear of the dasboard box for sunglasses etc. I might have to cut and rejoin the wire to get into it but if it not adjustable it might give me a clue what sort of a dispay it is that i might be able to swap with a bit of inginuity. Failing that I could fit a retofit reverse camera that also have distance buzzers, I have seen some on e bay at £40 that may be worth a punt.

This sounds like a 3rd party solution rather than a Toyota oem one?

Is it LED (small red, green, yellow, blue etc lights), or LCD (typically letters, numbers, words and pictures on a glass screen), as only LCD will have contrast adjustment. LED displays would probably mean having to change parts on the circuit board.

Yes it is more than just the red digital metres distance shown as it has proximity lines at the rear corners as well so it needs a specialized display. I think I am going to have to live with it but it is very dim and invisible with sunglasses on or in the sun without glasses.
