Automatic transmission issue?

The Toyota hillux surf (automatic transmission) stopped moving after emergency brakes ( heard some noise), the front wheels locked, they cannot rotate or turn, a mechanic opened the gearbox from under the car, and in the oil he found the attached springs, then he concluded that the gearbox has spoilt. Please advice, are these springs in the gearbox and are they relavant, and what is the problem with the car.
